    Vibration isolation question

I am not pleased with your decision and respectfully request that you reconsider. There is value in the exchange of differing views. This will be a very dull place if the criteria for membership is conformity to a narrow perspective. The high end is a quest not a destination.

    Vibration isolation question

Ethan, The thing that stands out for me in your system photo and your description of it is that you are holding out on us with an important detail. What kind of Scotch is that? And how does it affect the SQ? ;-)

    Telefunken vs EAT / 6922 / CJ ET5 pre

Mendel, Tube complement is: ET5 (1) 6922 and a MOSFET buffer. ARTsa (1) 6189; (2) 6N30P; and (8) KT120. I will follow your advice as I know that break in will take several hundred hours with all the Teflon caps anyway. It makes no sense to do anything until after break in.

    Vibration isolation question

Thank you Nick. Your findings are quite significant I think. Years ago I was in the business and had more than one client build a room devoted to music reproduction and in more than one case they too put their electronics in a different room. In one case the speakers were built into brick...

    Storage of cd's

I completely agree with Larry. Case Logic Albums hold up just fine, take up less space and are easy to leaf through. But, they are a PITA to insert new discs into where somehow room must be made for them. To overcome this problem, I made up Albums by genre or category, i.e. female vocal jazz...

A response to Ethan Winer re. tube electronics from his bok

Plus 1 for that! I can't quite fathom the antagonism directed at Ethan, and would like to respectfully request that it stop.

    Telefunken vs EAT / 6922 / CJ ET5 pre

Speakers are Sony SS-AR2. Primary source is a Sony HAP-Z1ES. I will not get a chance to play with my new toys before the weekend.

Can anyone compare CJ to McIntosh?

Correction, the amp is an ARTsa. Long story.

A response to Ethan Winer re. tube electronics from his bok

In Ethan Winer's book "The Audio Expert..." he opined (paraphrasing) that he did not want to cover tube electronics, rather he wanted to discuss technology that is pertinent in the 21st Century. I asked him to elucidate and he in turn asked me to posit the question in this open forum so that...

    Vibration isolation question

Tom, While I agree with your intention to "moderate" this discussion, Ethan's point is well taken. If you choose to rebuke one party, it seems only right and fair that you would treat all participants in the same manner. We do not all have to agree with each other, but it should be possible to...

    Telefunken vs EAT / 6922 / CJ ET5 pre

This is a timely thread. I have just received a new ET5, not even hooked up yet. Amp is new too, an ARTsa, arrived, but also not hooked up. Do I want to roll tubes right away or wait a bit until after break in? Excited about this, but traveling for business all week, so it will be a few days...

    Vibration isolation question

Don, Your post prompted some memories that I had forgotten. Back in the 1970s, I sold what was then high end equipment. Speakers such as JBL, Altec-Lansing, Bozak, Klipsch, and electronics such as Audio Research, McIntosh, Marantz, and SAE. Rudy Bozak came to our store for a meet and greet...

Can anyone compare CJ to McIntosh?

I would like to thank everyone for responding to my question. I have decided to go with CJ LP125sa+ and ET5. This was a big decision. I had never even considered CJ before, owned many Mc pieces over the years and in fact sold Mc for two different dealers, one in Seattle and the other in San...

    Vibration isolation question

Ethan, Have a friend lift the amp and preamp, this is very helpful advice. Of course I will have to find a strong friend or two, the CJ amp weighs over 80 lbs. Nevertheless, in the interests of science it will be done. Thanks very much. Bill

    Vibration isolation question

This is what makes the high end so much fun. As Mark Twain said, "It were not best that we should all think alike; it is difference of opinion that makes horse races." Unfortunately, vibration isolation is one area of our hobby that is not easy to try. For example, the only way to see if an...
