Follow up on type 27 tubes. I got a pair of inespensive Majestic Mesh type 27 globes that tested good and a pair of adapters. first impression is very positive but I'll post more after I listen more. (so you don't ahve to go looking for it, I'm using them in a SE GG3 with VC). Using the 45...
Excellent. I too am enjoying 274B rectification. I have an EML mesh that I really like and an Elrog. I had to build a lampshade for the Elrog because it is so bright but I think it is my favorite and I have the EML in my amp.
Enjoy!

@christoph It is a 2.5V heater like 45 and 2A3. It is rated at a lower heater current. I would think it would be just fine.
I didn't know Lampizator had an approved tube list. I didn't get a manual with my Golden Gate 3.
Would love to see the list.

@Tuckia I'm sure Aric would be glad to build you a pre with your choice of EMIA in it. He is very accomodating. I've never owned any of his stuff but would by now if I didn't have a custom amp being build. I've chatted with him and he is very open to customization.

Type 27 tube. I don't recall seeing any discussion of it in this thread. easily adaptable to the 4 pin socket we use, this should work in any DHT Lampizator DAC. Has anyone tried a pair/quad? I tried a pair of 45s and found them ok but nothing special, but they were not a special...
@Gryffles Good to see you proceeding with caution. The Lampizator tube rolling thread is amazing for the variety of tubes that have been swapped in. I recently bought a GG3 single ended. As you point out the current would be higher on a balanced rig. but I think the higher current would most...
I too have spectrum in So Cal. I rplaced the junk modem they provide with a Netgear Nighthawk. I then use Eero Mesh wifi. My ethernet to my audio and HT system comes directly out of my eero hard wired. I have an Ether Regen switch in there before my streamer.
I strongly recommend you do as...
Most tubes are lightless of very low light in my amp too. The other tubes are very old 01As that have thoriated tungsten filaments are are very attractive at night. The elrog is the only modern tube (that I know of) using thoriated tungsten filaments but they have overdone it (IMHO).
Mesh...
I don't have any of the 4 volters. I'm planning eventually to try one, probably the RGN2004. I think I need to add a dropping resistor to the adapter.
I did compare to the EML Mesh 274B which is in the amp in the second photo. I like them both. the adjective that keeps coming to my mind...
New solution to the overbright Elrog 274B. I bought a blue tinted sports bottle and cut the top and bottom off of it and put it over the tube, not dark enough. So I added a layer of red gel filter that I had laying around. Now my listening room is a red light district. the gel filters are...
I am a builder like Marco is. I make things and sell them and work on other people's stuff in another hobby. I have a saying, "You only have one reputation." Any time you send out a bad product you degrade your reputation. The worst I've ever done is to forget part of an order. I did one...
I sold my best 6SN7s with a 300b amp but I have a few second tier ones that are still very good. Never tried the Raytheon but it is hard to bea the Sylvania VT-231 and similar. I say similar since anything marked VT-231 is pricey.

Since the sound quality of youtube is generally not that great anyway, I generally either go chromecast to my TV or stream through an hdmi port to my HT reciever. for the latter you'll want a remote keyboard and mouse.
For my TV I run a toslink to my DAC and that is my setup for all TV sound...
