The Ypsilon is amazing but best I think if you run one cart and want to commit to that with a SUT that perfectly complements it. The thing I didn’t like with the Yip was that I was aware that I was listening to a SUT and an extra cable as well (also hugely annoying to me was that the Yip power...
Great to hear from another Phaethon user. My experience with the Lupe has made me very curious about the Tambaqui - I may explore that during my next digital fever dream where I resolve to forget that no matter how good a DAC is I always end up ignoring it to listen to records and then deciding...
I’m not seeing too much out there on the forums about the Lupe and so as an early(ish) adopter I thought I’d weigh in with my experience for anyone who might be looking at it.
To cut to the chase… I am very impressed. I have owned many phono preamps in my life up and down the price ladder...
Yes that is the eternal problem - you have to listen yourself in your own environment and until you do you just don't know. And that is not that easy to arrange other than buying the stuff second hand at somewhere around the going rate so that if you want to move it you can. I'm really tired of...
It definitely helps - it keeps me moving in the direction that I'm going to pass on the h3000 even though I'm sure it's good and probably even think it is a step up from the Steelhead. I just doubt it will be a step up that justifies me going to the trouble of selling the Steelhead. Would cost...
There's another CS Port on USAM for $9500 which is within driving distance of me. But until that unit gets a rave review from an audio personality here it's going to be very difficult to sell it at that price. I am curious about it but don't want to buy it, find I'm not in love with it, and then...
The problem with the H3000 is the lack of a mono switch to sum channels. My Miyajima (Premium Mono Be) is very finicky, sometimes hums loudly, sometimes not, always unpredictable from one phono pre or SUT to another. But this hum always disappears with the use of a mono switch.
This is all great input, thank you. This really is the best forum on the internet to discuss phono preamps in this class.
I admit right now I'm leaning towards that most unlikely move of an audio gear junkie, which is... sticking with what I have. I like the Steelhead quite a bit, more than...
I believe you - although I think if I were going to go one input with a step up I would either see if I can handle the heat and try the IO (Eclipse available near me now for a decent price) or stretch for the Ypsilon.
I've never owned a piece of Lamm gear - one of the few I haven't gotten around to - and I've been curious about his phonos for a long time. But I don't love the MC gain or set impedance and I also like running three tonearms whereas the Lamm is fairly inconvenient just for two. There really...
Well that's good to know. I wasn't really considering the CS Port anyway - doesn't offer any functionality above the h3000 and just too pricey here in the States. Very few people even know about that phono stage here.
Yes obviously I wish I could hear the Allnic before I buy it but... it's difficult. Probably not that hard to flip here in the States though so I may just go ahead with it and sell it if I prefer the Steelhead. I do have a fair amount of experience with Allnic phono stages - I've owned two h1201...
I think given the amount I'd have to lay out to get the CSPort I'd likely go with the Allnic anyway. My system leans towards the neutral/revealing side of things to begin with (Boulder 866 and TAD ME1) so I like a little bloom in the phono pre.
