    Technics SP10 MK3 Restoration

XV-1 Ages ago I had the Obsidian plinth in the main system and the character I would describe was thin, drab and dull. Btw, the new Acoustand Plinth and Sp10MkIII setup look really great. Congrats!

    advice sought, turntables $10-20k

wbass Many interesting analog front end options to choose beginning from your short list and by way of others mentioned here. :) Personally, vacuum platter hold down systems have always proved more fuss and trouble in my setup than they are worth, but to each his own. My $20k short list -...

Suffice to say, you prefer the SME 3012R in this instance... :D Having been less than enamored with SME arms owned during years past, I'm certain my hesitation is understandable. However, there are always exceptions to the rule in our world that is high end ! Although a personal audition has...

    In praise of idlers

The most common vintage single phase AC induction motors are low torque :) with moderately high centrifugal rotational inertia. I believe most can agree about a heavier platter having some distinct advantages. Torque Calculator

IMHO/IME a restored Thorens TD124 hybrid belt/idler will not yield the same results as a properly executed idler drive, as it is a different animal.

Curious, did you try playing the GC with the 11" or 14" length 4Point?

Indeed, the VDH Colibri & Grand Cru are higher compliance by nature and not the norm comparatively speaking to most LOMC carts. Fortunately, the AS Aquilar 12" varies by way of effective mass (15.5g - 18.8g) depending upon counterweight configuration. Perhaps I should also consider the 10"...

Ditto! :D The Schroeder CB-1L is another on my wish list..........I've heard from several who seem to prefer it in several ways over the Reference.

Quite a few years ago, I tried several vintage SME series, the 3009, 3010 if memory serves and had a 312 (?) at some point. I ended up moving on from all of them as I felt better playback was achieved using different arm combos. Recently, my sights have been set on the Acoustical Systems...

IMO great choice. The Kuzma Stabi M looks new school - old school fantastic. Have not compared them directly but I bet the M sounds really superb.
