    What Cartridge(s) Is Everyone Using

Nice phono stage! It would be my choice if I could afford it. Presently, I have Pass Labs' top-of-the-line of ten years ago, the XOno. However, now that I have two turntables, I would love to have an XP-25. Best regards, John Elison

    Michael Fremer's Cartridge Comparison

It is actually a bit simpler than that. Any time you have two different turntables, the probability is reasonably high that both will not spin at exactly the same speed. I simply timed all the recordings with a stop watch and found one with a significantly different time. Nine of them had the...

    Michael Fremer's Cartridge Comparison

Well, there are definitely differing opinions on the subject of whether digital can accurately capture the essence of vinyl. Personally, I believe that my 24/96 digital recordings of vinyl made on an Alesis Masterlink can reproduce all aspects of vinyl accurately and convincingly. Whether or...

    Michael Fremer's Cartridge Comparison

The only cartridge I can identify is the Ortofon Anna because the Continuum Caliburn turntable sticks out like a sore thumb if you know what to look for. The Continuum Caliburn with Ortofon Anna is cartridge test file #5. I can not identify any of the other cartridges.

    Michael Fremer's Cartridge Comparison

Well, I don't recall any pops or ticks. If there were any, they were well underneath the average level of the music. It would have been better if the pieces were recorded with the same volume level, but unless you are making A/B comparisons, I don't think that aspect is real critical. I...

    Michael Fremer's Cartridge Comparison

Has anyone listened to the recordings posted by Michael Fremer on the Analog Planet website? He recorded nine different high-output cartridges on a VPI Traveler for comparison and posted a 10th recording of the same piece played on his Continuum Caliburn turntable with an Ortofon Anna...

    Arc Protractors and/or alignment tools.

I have one of Ken's protractors, too. There's no question that it's one of the best. However, if you don't want to spend $75, you can make your own with Conrad Hoffman's excellent program. There is absolutely no difference in accuracy when you use the X-Y adjustment factors to get it right...

    Arc Protractors and/or alignment tools.

I like arc protractors, but I like free arc protractors. There is a program developed by Conrad Hoffman that will generate a custom arc protractor for any length tonearm. You need to specify your tonearm's mounting distance and the inner and outer groove radii. It has dimension adjustment...
