    ESL performance and ambient conditions

I remember talking to Roger West about this some years ago some of his customers in tropical areas of Asia (Singapore for example), The issue had to do with the materials used to insulate the stators, he changed the material to deal with the issue. He hadn't seen the issue where he lived (Utah)...

Amplifier Design Roundtable article / TAS issue 223

If you get the ones withthe chip amp E Geddes measured you will have a very nice amp with the right sort of load IOW no real low impedance with low efficenacy. Virtually no high order harmonic distortion , distortion that decreased in a linear fashion as volume is decreased and almost no zero...

NP confirmed that he is not using the SIT devices in the XS amps due to limitations of the power handling of those devices, he saif he is using somethiong different "tailored to get some of the same effects".

    Pass Labs XP-30 preamp?

They allude to examining different types of Output devices, and NP went to the trouble of having these devices made up. I will check into it and verify.

    Pass Labs XP-30 preamp?

THe XS is using these SIT device, hence the price of the amps. I believe the First Watt amps using the SIT's are only using 1 per ch. The XS is a different kettle of fish. First Watt (IMO) is N Pass's place to try out different topologies in low power formats. The design's has been released to...

    Pass Labs XP-30 preamp?

I havn't heard the amp. However I have followed the story of the amp over at DiyAudio. Nelson started using Power Fets from a company called SemiSouth. These are different critters than the typical MosFets, they are more of a power version of the Fets he uses in his pre amps. He worked with...

    Sampling Rates and Music Quality

Question are there algorithms that allow say a 44.1 16 bit file to be up sampled to a 88.2 24 bit for example? Would the quality of the resulting D/A conversion be improved? This would allow streaming audio from sources like Pandora or other internet raido sources with their huge libraries...

After 30 years the battle of the formats rages on

The only format wars for music are various loss/lossless formats and CD. Everything else is a niche. The controlling factor for most is access to the greatest variety of content. I do a lot of listening to youtube over headphones. There are a lot of performances available that I had never come...

    Anyone miss tube TVs?

I remember going to the drug store during the 50's they had a tube testing machine and he would test the tubes and get new tubes at the store to repair the TV when the old tube went out. Most of the tubes used in audio equipment today were designed to be used with tv's and not for audio use.

Perception, science, engineering and high-end audio

This is the Geddes approach run the mains full range and use the subs below the Schrodinger freq for the room to control room modes.

Perception, science, engineering and high-end audio

I agree with you take since I don't listen to organ music I am not worried about going below 30hz. I bought 3 of the Polk's for my daufhter's HT system and set them up as per Earl's recommendations they worked quite will in giving a good bass performance fo the room. I think Geddes larger...

Perception, science, engineering and high-end audio

Geddes actually mentioned the polk subs the point being that the 3 subs in a small room will be better thant 1 say 2k sub in optimizing the bass response in a small room. Of course if you went to say 2 rhythmic subs it would provide a lower response. The point of the post was the ability to...
