LL21 Your descriptions are great and I can reconcile my preferences with them. The thread that works its way through your posts is that you miss the foundational midbass of the Gryphon. Very glad you are pleased with them. ;) My experience is that simpler is often better and that lower power amps of similar design sound better than higher powered amps often through forced simplicity. The exception would be Michael's design, the only SS amp I know of that is limited exclusively...- Knopf405

Here is what I would do if you were really serious about small footprint and way less cost even if that is not an objective. Would not shock me if you felt it was on par mostly due to the last rec.....Plenty of multi 100k systems in Europe running the tiny Icon preamp if the source components... -

The LA90 has a SMPS with a traditional mosfet output stage. Yes, the audio hierarchy in a bit of a state of upheaval after many years of speculation of said upheaval IMO, especially with amplification and digital sources a close second.
