I am of the opposite opinion on tubes for the NS5000. I find my CODA #16 a tiny bit too warm for the NS5000. My friend who is a tube guy and an audio hardware vendor came over to hear the system and he was blown away by the NS5000 in my Livingroom. I think the #16 mated perfectly for his tastes...
Interesting statements. I agree that it was a flakey unit playing some disks. Maybe about 5% of my SACDs did not work after some time (20 years ago when new).
However, I had my unit modded by Vacuum State to Level 5+ status and the sound was amazing. Even 20 years later it was some of the best...
I have tried DAC direct to amp with all the DACs I had with volume. The best DAC for this being the Lumin X1 with the LeedH volume control. However, the LA4 and Serene make all DACs I have used sound better. I sold the Lumin X1 to buy some speakers, Yamaha NS5000. These 2 preamps are not too...
Another preamp to consider with the CODA #16 is the Holo Serene. It is slightly warmer than the Benchmark LA4 that I am currently using with the #16. I plan on using a warm PlaytBack Designs Dream DAC next year so the LA4 will work great with that combo.
I changed from the CODA 07x preamp to...
I wonder what secrets the Vitus guys know about digital to charge so much. I can understand it for PlayBack Designs price. One reason I am getting a PBD DAC is because I owned a Sony SCD-1 years ago and the (maybe same) people who made it knew a lot about digital.
I noticed that I had said I would get the AHB2 for my LRS+ speakers in an earlier post. I decided against it due to power matching issues and instead bought a Sanders Sound System Magtech amp (used $4K from Sanders). What a great amp for the LRS+. In many ways, it sounds as good as the CODA #16...
Have you compared the USB-X4 streamer with the older Streamer-IF? I have the IF and I am using it with a non-PBD DAC via SPDIF. It is an excellent streamer even on SPDIF. I assume P-link would be even better. I have plans for a PBD DAC purchase in the future.

A few years ago I went to the LA Audio show and heard the Resonessence Labs INVICTA Mirus review | Darko.Audio with a budget speaker and a secret amp. I wonder if the amp was using some of the tech in the Infigo amp. I told them that the system sounded...
Spending the $7K on the LRS+ was not that much of a impediment since the LRS+ is rather good would have been amazing with the KRELL. The pairing of the NS5000 with the smooth 300XD was the bigger negative factor. I also wanted to hear the AHB2 on the NS5000, since I think a pair of the AHB2's on...
The KRELL Duo 175XD is very smooth and buttery with very strong bass. The CODA #16 does not have that buttery smoothness. It is not as warm on top to me as the KRELL though I have heard a dealer tell me the opposite. I feel that the 300XD and the #16 would be of similar quality though it has a...
My CODA #16 is 150 | 300 | 600 at 8 | 4 | 2. The first 100 watts at 8 are Class A. It has a lot of current and it perfectly suited for the NS5000. I definitely do not need more power.
I have a PeachTree GAN400 being delivered this Saturday and will test it out with the NS5000. I think it will...
After 100 hours on the NS5000 some things are starting to take shape. I do not get to sit in front of the system much (at the end of the year) but I do have it cranked up in the Livingroom and I mostly listen in the office. I do take some breaks to have a proper listen.
This speaker needs...
I have heard the T+A HV gear in the past and they used something they referred to as High-Voltage (HV) tech inside this line. There used to be a long description of this tech on the T+A web site but I cannot find it today.
Both T+A and SPL are German and I was wondering if SPL's Voltair tech is...
I saw the m1000 before and it is under consideration.
I think this Saturday will be very telling as to what I do. I do know that the 150-watt CODA #16 is the most powerful amp I have ever owned. Maybe it is recency bias but I used to own some very high power amps from Bryston, KRELL, Parsound...
I know the TAD well. I was seriously considering the TAD ME1 for my office, but the office is too small. I have a Magnepan LRS+ in the office now with a KEF KC62 sub which works very nicely. I have the CODA #16 in the office with my Benchmark LA4 preamp and Benchmark DAC3B. Both Benchmark pieces...
