Rowland 555

What are you using for a preamp?
mpd8 dac built in preamp only, it is great and I am satisfied with it. One of the few dacs where I did not feel neednfor external pre amp and one less extra box is nice.

If I didn't require HT bypass on my Corus preamp, I would try the MPD8 DAC.

Unfortunately no, this is my first rowland product. I would be interested in an opinion on this as well.

Jeff Rowland 555 with even a NAD M66 using a Brinkmann Bardo is a fantastic system. Speakers are Stenheim Alumine 3. Unreal dynamics.
Have you tried the Capri S2 with the 555? I have a Continuum S2 which I can use the preamp section when I demo the 555 in my system. I also have an Emotive Audio Epifania tube preamp but it's single ended only.

Really? I'm getting the MPD-8 and was thinking about the MPD-8 AI to plug in my phono stage to use the MPD-8's preamp volume control. Is that what you are doing as well?

No phono stage for me sir. Just dac to amp. No external pre amp.

Video paying tribute to the 555 amp!

Video dedicated to the 555 amp!

Sounds fantastic! Nice big room....Nice speakers! I have the JM Lab/Focal OG Mezzo Utopias using Rowland Model 12 Monoblocks.

No analog for you! I'll be getting the MPS-X too as well as the MPD-8 from Mikey. Can't wait.

I am deciding between the Fischer and Fischer 770's or Rockport Orion's for my new speakers. There's a $100k difference in price but the F&F's are formidable. And they are Tri wired....

I'll likely be getting a pair of 555's for Bi wiring.

What did you mean "video dedicated to the 555 amp"...I'm using a Classe SSP-800 AV processor for video and home theater so that threw me.

Dedicated to the amp as in dedicating video to pay respect to Jeff Rowland as a brand. I feel the brand is so slept on.

You are very fortunate to casually decide between the FF speaker vs the Orion!

Jeff doesn't care about marketing etc. He sells out his models and then just makes a new model. 535 sold out? Time for the 555. But those who know Rowland stay Rowland. My model 12's I've had since 2009 and will continue to use then for bi-amping. I spoke to Jeff for an hour a few weeks ago. He said the Model 12's were special. He said the same about the 555's. Mikey said that unlike most amps that have their distortion in the high frequencies, the 555 has its distortion in the low frequencies so the highs are very accurate. Something like that.

About video- Sorry. Are you meaning you have no video? Just sticking to audio?

I guess I was sounding a bit casual. It's actually a huge decision of which speakers... And which sound better. The love for the Orion's is huge. I'm reading several posters here selecting the Orion's over the Lyra's even though they heard and can afford the Lyra's. So I respect the Orion's big time.

I just don't know how the 770's stack up against the Orion's as they are sort of new and not many reviews. But I trust Mikey..... 2 8.7" sub drivers, 1 8.7" bass driver, 2 7" midrange drivers and an AMT tweeter. All in quiet slate. With tri wired super expensive Mundorff crossovers. All for $100k less than the Orion's. The Orion's might sound better. But $100k better? I've got time to decide.

I have JR 735s and agree that the brand is slept on. I've compared them to some of the popular amplifiers, but I prefer the JR sound. The other thing is Mr Rowland provides truly outstanding customer service.

The new Capri S2V2 is amazing.

Is there actually a new Version from the S2 called V2? So the version 2 of the second series??

Or do you refer to the S2-SC, that is the Series 2 with the SuperCapacitor power supply, similar technology like that in the external and optional PSU powersupply.

What cables do you use between the preamplifier and the amplifier?
I prefer Hijiri Million XLR instead Furutech Lineflux.
