I recently purchased a used record of Previn conducting A Midsummer Night’s Dream on an original UK EMI label. The sound is terrible having a thin sound. I think it’s because it’s a quad recording. I have lots of Previn records on emi that sound great. I will not buy any more of these. A great recording of this piece is by Peter Maag on Decca.

I don't know how to interpret your comments. Does it sound thin because it is a quad recording and you are playing only the front channels? Or, is it your experience that quad recordings sound thin for another reason? I have many that are far from that.

No I think it’s thin playing it as a stereo record. I don’t have a quad setup and I don’t think many people do.
