This hasn't been my finding. All that have heard it will tell you that the SX-8000 II is clearly in the same class as the AF1. But I do agree with your findings on the knife-edge SME's.
I am going to have to hear more ethernet cables before I can determine if they are distorting or influencing the sound or not.
It seems to me that digital cables influence the sound in a different way than analog cables do.
I have certainly heard this for myself when I began using top level Micro Seiki turntables. But upgrading from a Grace to a Micro Seiki tonearm on my more humble BL-51 has given me a similar leap of improvement, although a smaller one but still an eye opener.
A slot-loaded open baffle multi-parallel woofer design in push-pull configuration can give you the best compromise of all design types with the right amount of EQ.
Well, I have played 12 records now, and it is coming along nicely. Only time will tell how much more it will open up. But I have never before heard an MM cartridge that reproduces timbre so realistically.
I can tell you that this cartridge is far better than it should be for the price it...
I have an OTL SET headphone amp employing an early '60's Mullard 6DJ8 and a late '50's RCA Grey Plate 6AS7. It powers a set of JVC HA-D990's, and utilizes a Numark EQ for correct frequency response with the Shure replacement pads.

All digital recordings up to now contain noticeably less resolution than the original performance, and they also sound distinctly different as well.
Redbook CD is a highly lossy format which discards a rather large amount of "least significant bits".
I have argued for years that PCM digital...
No. Accuracy only sounds correct with a handful of recordings. Nearly all recordings are flawed, which is why J Gordon Holt said down with flat.
Musical fidelity has no relationship with accurate reproduction. It is a quest to get to the heart of the music by creating a musically immersive and...
It's about being immersed in the music. Hifi detracts from this goal. I have created the terms music-fi and musical correctness to differentiate the two.
I am going to be testing different custom alignments to see which sounds and performs the best with this cartridge/tonearm combo.
I am currently using a VTF of 1.8g with a level tonearm.
I use to have the air version of this table with a stainless steel platter. I replaced it with a BL-111 Air which I find to be warmer and more musical.
