It only took me 4½ years since the start of this thread to finally secure a NM/VG+ (vinyl/jacket) copy of the MFSL reissue. Haven't played it yet, but I will soon enough.
When I chose Sarah McLachlan in an earlier post I did so not purely because of her voice, but also for her incredible writing talent. Based on the thread title and selecting someone for vocals only I would have, and maybe should have, chosen Eva Cassidy. To me she is the female equivalent of Nat...
I'll be spinning vinyl for as long as I can..believe me. I already have several hundred CD(mostly)/SACD titles and would build on some faves I don't yet have on those formats. We'll see what happens with streaming and I won't rule it out...I promise. :)
I'm 65 years old and although my overall health is fine, I have noticed that my mobility has taken a noticeable turn for the worse. My hands/fingers aren't as steady & flexible, I have a more difficult time getting up from a crouched position and I don't bounce back as easy as I once did. This...
Although I was already very much into music and started buying vinyl in 1967, it wasn't until I heard DSOTM on tape in 1973/4 that my eyes and ears opened to a world I had never before experienced.
Hi Davey!
What kind of rock are we talking about as it encompasses a huge body of albums ranging from straight rock (go back to the fifties and early sixties) to hard rock, metal, folk, pop, etc.. If one includes all of the sub-genres then we have hundreds of great recordings.
Ville Emard was my stomping ground as a youth. I lived next door in Lasalle, but my ex lived in Ville Emard so we tended to hang out there. Friday nights eating a greasy burger at DiLallo's is a food experience I still long to have again, although it probably wouldn't be the same.
Harmonium...
I'm a huge fan of Sarah McLachlan and with the exception of Afterglow have all of the Classic Records vinyl reissues. I stopped doing comparisons and also critical listening some years ago as I felt it was impeding on my enjoyment of music listening as a whole. So unless something is truly awful...
Unaffordable? You do know you're posting on the WBF, right? Haha! But you're not wrong! Ric is more expensive, but all of his stock is play-graded and he imports stuff you'd be hard-pressed to find elsewhere. When I lived in Oakville ( I left for Calgary 4 years ago after 30 years) Ric was my...
In fairness, I'm not a consumer of ultra high-end audio and consider myself and the equipment I own as more of an entry-level high-end audiophile enthusiast, but if I were, I could or would perhaps be of the same mindset.
I think that Marantz with it's Reference line certainly can. Perhaps not the nth degree in terms of overall performance excellence as compared to some you've listed, but their scale allows for a product that a boutique manufacturer would have to sell at more than double the price. The new...
A sports team's uniform is also referred to as a "kit"...in England anyway. I hear it referred to in North America with increasing frequency among MLS fans. Remember also that language evolves...and I'm OK...or is it Okay ...with that.:D
All my vintage gear is gone and I kind of miss it. I had a good complement of Pioneer gear (SA-9500II / SG-9500 / PL-514 / RT-909) that I enjoyed for years. My dream back then was obtaining those SPEC amps in your sig, but I never got there. I also had the Xonar Essence STX card in my old PC.
As others have said, it depends on the size of the room and the amount of gear you have. Gear is not an issue for me as my system is straightforward and positioned on one rack (TT/IA/CDP). Room size is another matter at only 16' deep, so I have about 18" of space between the rack and the wall...
I've always shied away from making this for basically two reasons. One, I absolutely despise Grits and Polenta (similar but not identical). And two, I don't own a cast-iron skillet. I had one decades ago, but never really saw the need to replace it. Anyway, a few months ago I saw a recipe pop-up...
I'm gonna have to disagree with you on that. I have Frampton's Camel, Frampton and Winds of Change and those LPs are just fine. There's nothing wrong with the recordings and/or pressing quality, and IMO the music is quite accessible.
I started buying vinyl in 1967. The first one I bought was BEATLES '65. Then a few weeks later SGT PEPPER. I believe the third was JIMI HENDRIX - AXIS: BOLD AS LOVE. I bought about a dozen that year.
