The network upgrade is one Ive been struggling with. I have a buddy that I consider a Guru when it comes to the techy stuff and his opinion is that it is BS. I have verizon service and a fairly new router that is 3 years old, and NAS. I ethernet to my Roon Rock.
I dont recall saying it was bright. After 3 listening sessions I find that the Lampi needs about 3 hours minimum to settle. It was better when given appropriate time to warm up. But the best of the three was the Holo May KTE.
I prefer to stay SS on the DAC. I have tube power amps and Preamp. I purposely bought the CXJ ET5 cause it has only one tube. I want reliability and repeatability. I wont exclude tube just yet until I hear one (lampi)
thats what I was thinking. Also, is my Vega long in the tooth SQ wise? or is it still competitive?
I'd like to stay with SS but have to admit my tube stuff is better than my SS stuff. I like an organic sound without hard "edge". I presume that would mean R2R?
Yea my concern is that there are so many choices, yet many probably sound very similar to each other. kind of like "me too". Looking for that DAC thats a standout in it price range. Arent we all looking for that ha ha.
Coinsidering upgrading from my original Auralic Vega DAC. My budget is $5K which can be for a preowned or new DAC. I run Roon Rock on an intel Nuc and Quobuz streaming. My system electronics are CJ ET5 and P12's. Advice is appreciated. Thank You
I absolutely LOVE my Premiere 12's. I am looking for an additional amp especially for the summer that runs cool and is lightweight. I had surgeries so I cant lift heavy amps and the rook it too hot with tubes in the summer
I just looked them up they are 20K so they are over my budget. Thanks. I should also state that I prefer to do business with a US company and not a fly by night in case I need service in the future.
Hi, E1X is not easy to find on the used market but is at the top of my range. Just curious how the Peachtree Gan400 would compare. Also is there a big step between the BC Ref600m and the E1x performance wise??
Thanks so much for your response. Yes I gather that the Merrill might be a bit too much the other way. I listened to Peachtree Gan400- today. The rest of the guys system wasn't all the great so it was hard to judge. I seemed warm. certainly no glare at all. Didn't seem to have a lot of power...
@gleeds I would not consider a product from Australia. Last time I had a Burson I needed a replacement board it took like 4 months to get it sorted out. (This was long before the pandemic) I don't have anything against the company per se, just to far around the globe lol!
I currently use a pair of CJ Premiere 12 which I love. However I am looking to add an amp to my stable. I am considering Class D or some other variant but the amp must be fairly lightweight (30 lbs?) as I have had back surgeries and I would like it to run cool. NY summers are brutal with tube...
I am using a RP& which some say is not in the same league as the CJ. I did try the RP9 and it was a step up. Not sure what model I would get if I bought a CJ Preamp.
I own the original Auralic Vega (silver). Time goes by fast in the digital domain (no pun intended). I was wondering if my DAC is still competitive? IF I were to replce it I wouldn't even know where to begin price wise? brand? etc. I have FOMO but if you think that there is not much to be...
I ended up buying the TS 6550 reissue before prices went bonkers. They sound close to the NOS SED Wing C. However I did not swap back and forth as I want to be kind to the tube sockets. Also they only have about 15-20 hours on them.
Well I ended up putting more effort into my speakers and it bore fruit big time. They are my own design 1 MW16P woofers and TW29R tweeter. They are sounding fantastic right now. Thank you for the suggestions.
