My dealer suggested that I play the preamp for about a month or so before considering different tubes. Are you using the ECC88? The nice thing about the CJ is it takes just one tube which makes it easier to buy the better tubes and you do't have to worry about matching pairs.
The tube dampers seem interesting. Anywhere specific that you purchase your tubes. I also observed that Music Direct was selling an EAT 6922 tube w/damper. They claim 10,000 hrs about same life as the original Soviet 6h30's. Any opinion on the EAT 6922.:)
Thanks to both for the advice. As for the Mullards are we talking NOS or the current one's?? What is the advantage of the EAT tube damper over other brands. Also someone mentioned to me Gold Lion 6922's any good?? Currently w/the stock tube this is the best sounding preamp I've ever owned. The...
About a year ago I tried a ET3 SE at home and it did not go well. The tube was bad and I didn't invert my speaker wires(stupid me). Well about a month ago I gave it a second chance. This time good tube and speakers wired properly, what a difference. Vocals smooth and detailed, excellent...
I took the CJ ET-3 SE back today and we hooked it up to a Bryston 4B and a pair of Aerial 7T's. The there was no hiss. The dealer said there was probably an impedance problem w/my Thresholds. He said some NOS tubes might correct the problem but there was no guarantee. One thing about my local...
The ET-3 SE uses just one tube a 6922. I can hear the hiss from my sitting position w/my Audio Research SP-16 I have to put my ear against the grill to hear any tube rush. I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow as this was just borrowed for an at home demo to see how it sounded w/my system.
This weekend I just took home a CJ ET-3 SE for a home demo tryout. The big problem I had w/it was the high level of hiss I was getting through my Aerial 6's. No problem w/my Audio Research Sp16. Could it be just a bad tube??
Does anyone have an opinion on Cryoset tubes. A friend of mine recently put a pair of Gold Lion gold pins into the Unison Research integrated and it was a big step up from the standard Tung Sol gold pins the came w/the unit. I think the cost was $45 per tube.
I have Tellurium Q Black speaker cables and Black interconnects. The speaker cables are hooked up to a pair of older Aerial 6's and a pair of Modified Threshold T-50 Class A amps. The Interconnects run from my P-75 MKIII phono to an Audio Research SP16. Originally I had Transparent Music Wave...
Talked w/my local dealer who knows Michael Kelly quite well and he informed me that the Aerial 5B bookshelf speaker has been discontinued. This fall the new 5 will be out. It basically will be the same design as the 6&7T models. It will also not be a sealed design like the 5B and older 5. It...
Interesting developments at Thiel audio. They are shutting down their Lexington KY. operations and moving to Nashville. They have also auctioned off all their machinery. If you check out the help wanted on the Thiel site no positions are available. Story on Stra.ta gee .com.:p
If you look at the new designs: No time coherent/first order crossover, the drivers for the new lineup will be fiber glass not the metal drivers that Jim Thiel designed. The new owners felt that the Thiel sound had limited appeal. They are going for a warmer sound along the lines of Sonus Faber...
I will look forward to your review. As a former owner of 1.6's, .5's and 2.3's I'd be interested in the comparison. Also if you talk to Mark Mason question him on the 3.7 and the other speakers in the line. It doesn't seem feasible that they would have 2 speakers in the same price range...
The whole Thiel speaker line is going to be revamped. They are going w/6 new speakers 2 centers and 2 subs. First order time/coherent design is gone. Also the metal drivers Jim Thiel designed are gone. Pictures of the new TT-3 which will replace the 3.7 and the TTM-3 are on line.
One dealer I frequent buys and sells records. I have cleaned out my collection a few times. Instead of cash I take store credit. As a result I ended up paying $400 for an Oppo 95. Paid $150 for a Dynavector 10x5 another time. Next sell off an Okki Nokki.
Just about every forum has a gang. They all seem to pounce at once. This group isn't any different. By the way I checked the screws on my Linn, they were exactly like the picture. Should I turn my dealers name in??
