    Innuos Pulsar ????

I sold my Sablon 2020 USB cable as to my ears the Holo cable I got with my May sounded no worse, and perhaps even better. And even works with my printer ;-) I think much depends on synergy/taste.

Denafrips product owners please fall in

Hermes owner here. Does anyone know if it's possible to connect the Dual AES/EBU outputs on the Denafrips DDCs to the Dual BNC inputs on Chord DACs?

Mac Mini vs. MacBook for music server

I'm afraid I couldn't do a meaningful direct comparison. I had already sold my DAC when the Mac mini arrived. Although my plan was to use the Mac mini as a digital source with a new DAC, after hearing nothing wrong with the analogue out I decided not to bother with a standalone DAC (at least...

Mac Mini vs. MacBook for music server

My system is now all built-in SMPS (Mac mini + amp) and my boutique aftermarket LPS's are lying around unused ;-)

Mac Mini vs. MacBook for music server

...I recently picked up a Sony XPeria 5 ii phone, it has one of the newest Snapdragon processors and, gasp, a headphone jack! The sound was surprisingly good (compared to what you'd expect from "consumer" gear), so I decided to plump for an M1 Mac mini, based on the hunch that perhaps there is...

Mac Mini vs. MacBook for music server

In the early 2010’s purpose designed servers were starting to sound better than stock MBPs or Mac minis. Hence the PSUs and mods for the Mini. Eventually a lot of people gave up on the Mac as a music server, myself included. I wonder how many of these people have revisited the Mac and tried a...

Mac Mini vs. MacBook for music server

Hi Matt, it’s nothing special and it’s a small network. ISP modem to Edgerouter X SFP. The router is connected to 2 separate access points each on its own subnet. Non audio is handled by a Ubiquiti UniFi UAP-AC-LITE and audio by an Aruba instant on AP12. I have a Farad Super 3 12V PSU...

Mac Mini vs. MacBook for music server

Thanks for the replies. Just for context, my system is not at the level warranting the likes of the Taiko server. But I am keen to do the best I can and learn from the experiences of others. I should also mention I have an unmodded 2011 Mac Mini and concur, this and the 2012 MBP are both beaten...

Mac Mini vs. MacBook for music server

Has anyone got any recent experiences to add? I found my 2019 i9 iMac (stock) to significantly improve on a 2012 MBP. Considering the iMac is a mainly a work machine, I am wondering about a refurbished Mac Pro (5.1, the pre-“trashcan” model). The desktop Macs in general seem superior to the...

Anyone try Isoacoustics Gaia’s and Townshend Seismic Podiums?

I tried both with PMC25.23. Had the Gaia’s for a month, cleaned up the mids nicely but I lost some bass impact. Tried the Townshends and the bass was better than ever, a true improvement with no downsides.

Isn't mqa just another kind of mp3?

You can’t convert MQA to WAV / PCM because it’s (intentionally) proprietary.

Isn't mqa just another kind of mp3?

Hi, essentially mp3 sounds like the original CD or hi-res master. MQA applies proprietary processing (and adds a hardware dependency) that intentionally alters the sound in such a way as to subjectively appeal to some people. Personally MQA sounds worse than CD quality.
