I removed the SSD from my server (Antipodes EX) 3 years ago in my focus on improving audio from ethernet.
I suggest swap the order of the 'cheap' switch and OM as per ... cheap switch > fibre > OM > copper > UEF switch. Go one better and use a 10Gb/SFP+ switch instead of the cheaper one. The...
Well, maybe you could save up for 60 feet of QSA L ethernet. :D
My suspicions, from experimenting and reading about others experiences, are that:
1. wired cable will likely be better than fibre in terms of overall sound quality over short lengths, perhaps unless very high quality SFP+ modules...
Oh dear, I think what you saying is that with a non-dedicated and cruddy power source the DC cable will probably deliver about its worst performance ... which makes my speculation about the furthest from the reality you described.
It is puzzling why the DC cable made such a significant...
Bear in mind I suspect Taiko is talking only about the SFP v RJ45 noise, and no the cable going into the RJ45. I wonder if 60 feet of wired ethernet cable will shunt more noise in than a SFP makes.
If it could be achieved without breaking the bank (or house) I suspect the better solution would...
Sorry, I dint mean to labour this off topic issue, however just to clarify, I have no network connected by wire to the Devialet (streamer) and can still detect changes in the upstream network, despite it also having fibre. My guess is noise (maybe phase noise) is getting into my Antipodes EX...
Like the PS Audio Memory Player.
But even buffered music can be spoilt if the streamer is connected to the network.
My streamer is in Devialet Pro which I connect to via wifi which is better than fancy wired connections I tried. So it is isolated from the wired network, but still I can...
Have you considered running fibre from your router to the Ether Regen? With so much generic ethernet leading to the ER I'd speculate it is somewhat flooded with noise which possible reduces its effectiveness.
I suggest consider what can be done to minimise noise at each device and...
Thanks Gary and Don.
Reading between the lines, I gather Gary is saying that no pair of drivers in the Prime towers (when used without the other drivers operating) provided an optimal sound quality, weather they were the oair at floor level or higher up. I suspect each pair had pros and cons...
I respect that Gary, so I understand my last question was asking for some of your intellectual property. Although, I was just interested from a basic conceptual perspective, not the secret derails of your implementation.
However, the 2 other questions are asking for your observatiins from...
Thanks for your reply Gary, I appreciate your time. The info provided about the SuperSubs is a bit dispersed so I have put the pieces of the puzzle here ...
I like using exactly two, and horizontally opposed so that the cabinet doesn't hop around when driven hard.
As the woofers are...
Thanks. I have stereo JL e112s. I raised them about 20" from the floor, that dimension is just because that is what I had to put then on. Just that was an impressive improvement. With this new basis, I am tinkering with placement again. Then room correction.
So far, raising the subs and...
I thought so. Did you notice any correlation between room modes (esp. the floor to ceiling dimension) and height of sub from the floor (or ceiling)?
This is a bit off topic, but relates to my queries about the SuperSub short stature.
What can we can learn fir instance from the SuperSub that...
Hi,
I'm hoping to resurrect this interesting thread. I am curious about @garylkoh view on a few things, but all comments are welcome.
I am not an engineer or speaker designer, but a curious audiophile.
Why is the SuperSub squat rather than a taller line array tower?
Why are the drivers...
