Yes, agree the Oladra is genuinely spectacular.
I run it via the ProUSB setup into the Reference and the results is fantastic.
If Antipodes do offer the ProISL as a "native" output, that would probably be even better?
In which case I can't wait :)
All the best!
I feel you pain, F208Frank.
We spend a LOT of time deciding what to buy, then the wait for The Chosen Product to arrive is excruciating.
To have It arrive , and YOU not be home......well......just awful :)
Hope you love It when your hear It :)
They really are stunning speakers- neutral yet beautiful.
When I upgrade the upstream components, the sound improves further ie the A5s have got more to give!
Now I wonder what the hell the new S3s might have to offer....
I drive Magico A5s with Audionet Humboldt. Source is Oladra via MSB Reference DAC.
Great recordings are sensational, even crappy 80s ones sound good. The detail is there, and no edge at all.
No idea what you would hear with lower-grade amps, though.
I have my A5s on a "home-made" set of A-Pods (aluminium/copper/absorbent sandwiches)- seemed to improve things a bit- I would suspect that the A-pods would be a good addition
Vince, I think you are doing a great job! Wish I were in Europe to hear these new things.
I doing care all that much about AAA vs ADD vs DDD.
What I want to know is: which of the TotalDAC DACs (if any) is a significant step up from the MSB Reference DAC.
and: is there an Australian dealer??
kind...
I use homemade subs w 12” Peerless drivers and 250w cheap plate amps.
Definitely a small improvement as subs tend to be, but nothing amazing.
I am waiting for SVS SB4000s to go on special and I will get a pair of them, UNported to match the A5s.
I am not sure I have ever heard a system as good...
Yep, agree with the posters above- mid and treble were fine for me out of the box. It is a very UNcoloured speaker.
Bass took more than a few days to come in, genuine break-in, plus a few days for my ears to get used to it (pseudo-break-in!)

Wine may protect against coronary artery disease in some doses to some extent, but all alcohols can increase risk of rhythm disturbance.
See your doc and listen to them. Write down questions beforehand...
I love to see your commitment, and may well try your new DACs, but I wonder whether you could comment on why you chose to record on analogue tape instead of in digital, when digital has a much large in Dynamic Range?
No, the conditioner is doing a good job, day listening now sounds much like night listening.
Night time is just quieter in terms of ambient sounds from other rooms / houses / roads etc
I use Plixir's 3000 BAC Elite , and I plug everything in, including the Humboldt. At first, I kept my subs off, but the difference was small. When I included them, it sounded better- lower noise floor, more legible.
I hear NO restriction, and the whole system sounds better, more like late-night...
I have heard the A3 at a showroom- it is very clean and clear without much extra noise added to the signal. I bought the A5 because it is such a truthful transducer- sounds great to me, plenty of “they are here” moments and very enjoyable.
Never heard them side by side with the A3 so cannot...
I am inclined to agree re: distortion and level. My Plixir / Oladra / MSB Ref / Audionet Humboldt / Magico A5 system is SO clean that I tend to play it VERY loud. There is no distortion or any ugliness to slow me down. Only when one tries to hold a conversation does one realise that it is really...
I use single-ended inputs on my Humboldt.
Sounds absolutely wonderful, and I think slightly better than the balanced.
Fantastic amp. I use the MSB Reference as preamp.
Tubes often sound beautiful, and I can see why people love them so much.
For me, tube-rolling is a part of the hobby I do NOT want to get into, but YMMV and lots of smart, interested music lovers do it all the time. We all enjoy different bits of the hobby :)
This thread has been great for the...
Thanks for that post, Seismion. Very interesting.
“Cheap” is clearly a relative term! I am in Australia- do you distribute here at all?
Is anyone game to post prices for these devices?
I have Antipodes Oladra, MSB Reference DAC and Audionet Humboldt on home-made supports on a wooden floor, so I...
Best photos of the Wadax I have seen- can see the three-dimensional shape of the front.
Way too expensive for me, but aspirational for other DAC-makers to aim for better sound.
Flap me, that’s a beautiful looking thing- and I suspect it will sound fantastic.
The A5 is unbelievable- I can’t imagine how this one will sound
Thanks for the data and photos
