Just call Shahinian - (631) 736-0033 - they'll explain the connections (not obvious). I've never seen a manual for their speakers (which is, of course, odd)!
I think the issue with "dealer setup" is one of repetition, rather than anything else. Peter swain and Tom O'keef have set up hundreds, maybe thousands of LP12s. I have had one for over 40 years but have probably set it up about half a dozen time - that's 8-10 years between each setup...
Speakers up against a wall have pretty unpredictable results but may sometimes work. Have you tried your dynaudios up against the wall? Failing that, I'd steer clear of permanently mounted, in-wall speakers, if you're after quality. Even the expensive ones are a terrible compromise.
I wouldn't put too much weight on web reviews. The nice thing about the Ohm is that you have a 30 day in-home trial period (at least in the US) to make up your own mind.
My first LOMC cartridge back in 1978 was a Denon DL103D - loosely based on the 103 but with a higher compliance and elliptical stylus. I've graduated through Linn (Supex) and Lyra MCs since then but I don't think either were substantially better than the 103D. Pity they discontinued it so long...
Well, having had LOMC cartridges for almost 50 years, I finally went back to a MM. Replaced my Lyra Argo i with a RigB AT VM760SLC. Haven’t lost much at all and the tracking is much better. The exposed nude stylus/cantilever of the Lyra finally did it for me as my manual dexterity (and...
SUTs tend to round off the sound at the top and bottom end. But I think to get a change of the magnitude and type you are seeking, a change in cartridge is what you need. If you want an "SUT" type sound, Koetsu is definitely the way to go. Stay away from Lyras!
Resurrecting an old thread here with some more personal experience. I had a Denon DL103D (can't speak to the lower compliance DL103 or DL103R) and it worked like a charm in an SME3009/S2 (not improved) on a TD125 turntable. "Conventional wisdom" says this combination should have been a disaster.
I sadly miss the old Linn/Supex range of LOMC cartridges. The original Asak wasn't much to write home about but the metal-bodied Asaka, Karma and Troika were simply amazing.
“Audiogon and US Audio Mart are both online marketplaces for buying and selling audio equipment, such as high-end audio gear, speakers, turntables, and more. Both platforms allow users to list items for sale, and browse listings from other users”
Uh, and???
Ebay does as do most other websites (depending if your state collects sales tax). Don't know about Audiogon, but I've been on Audiogon for 20 years and they just keep screwing the pooch with their fees.
Audiogon no longer has a place in the audio discussion and buy/sell arena. Their feedback system is so heavily moderated that nobody gets negative feedback, their forum posts that don't paint them in a positive lights are deleted, and their fees are just plain silly when USaudiomart exists.
Not on an LS3/5A. If you think anything is better for reproducing the majority of the piano range (Bösendorfers excepted) then something is wrong elsewhere in your system.
Hi: I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the Linn LP12 (is it banned on this board)? I haven't heard many of the turntables mentioned in this thread but I have heard the Linn compared to the Nottingham, TD124/SME, and 401/SME on the same day with the same ancillary equipment. No comparison, the...
