I prefer single colors, but the black top on the silver base is sharp.

New source for Master Calibration tapes; ATR Service Inc.

Calibration tapes are equally important for playback calibration, whether it be via internal electronics or outboard electronics.

Taiko Audio XDMS - Extreme Direct Music Server Software

Sound quality is numero uno but functionality is important too. Things like gapless, scrubbing, and library navigation are valuable to me too.

Victor’s point is that only a minute percent of albums are available on tape, especially if you like jazz and rock.

I tried to do some research to understand if flac and wav order the bits differently. I couldn’t find anything useful.

I am not so sure that the sound quality of XdMS on the Extreme is superior to Roon.

Does that mean we just need to re-encode all our flacs using ffmpeg?

Well, it is both. There are TONS of albums not available commercially. There is a lot of great stuff out there but most albums aren’t.

    Taiko Audio Extreme Router

My last instructions in the thread are: “The username and password are the same credentials as VNC as well.” Those would be the credentials for the Extreme (or Olympus). People may have changed their username and password from the default.

Having a deck is a small part of this. Acquiring the software is the hard part.

Great. Even though you are using the router IP address you are actually logging into the Extreme.

Introducing Olympus & Olympus I/O - A new perspective on modern music playback

I am definitely confused (but open-minded) by the notion that different audio conversion software results in wav files that sound different. It completely contradicts my notion of what these encoding software packages do. Why aren't they all behaving like winzip? Every time I unzip a file I get...

The only thing that matters is what it sounds like. There is a lot of bling in the audio industry that does nothing positive for sound quality. Maybe one of these days I will hear a reel to reel setup that sounds better than my Technics RS-1500 with a flux magnetic head + the Doshi Evo tape...

Can you share your listening experiences with hearing the Metaxas and TP-1000 and other decks in the same system at the same time? I want to understand the basis of "it's in a different league" comment.

Introducing Olympus & Olympus I/O - A new perspective on modern music playback

"Consensus"? You must be new here. :D I have listened to flacs and wavs of the same file sets and did not hear a significant difference and definitely not enough to convert everything to wav. However, I don't doubt that others hear a difference.

I spoke to the guy leading the TP-1000 effort. Great guy and very accommodating. Tons of dealers are difficult to deal with. You seem intent on trashing AAD. They have made a great, affordable product.

that is not true. You can set up port forwarding and see the drives on the Extreme from a computer on a different subnet.

These will all be good tests. I purchased a 2 bay Synology NAS which pulls just over 1A. I currently have it in my music room powered via the DCD and connected to the Taiko router. Even without any music playing I cannot hear either the drives or the fan (if it is even running; I have it...
