Don_Camillo on knocking down, draging out the Linn LP12 to get it even more the best player of the world

I don't doubt that it sounds different with mushrooms. We've already made modifications like this when you were probably still swimming in Adam's sausage cauldron. Back then, the springs were stuffed with foam or stuck in several layers of shrink tubing. So I also know how the difference...

Don_Camillo on knocking down, draging out the Linn LP12 to get it even more the best player of the world

I would do that if anyone o them can provide a measurement of Signal to noise ratio and rumple to noise level in front of. As long as these measurements are not available, these mushrooms are a no-go because they have a resonance frequency in the audible range and will significantly worsen these...

Don_Camillo on knocking down, draging out the Linn LP12 to get it even more the best player of the world

I´d rather doubt that. Original Linn springs have resonance frequency situated at 6 Hz, those gel mushrooms at 23 up to 49 Hz depending on the sub chassis weight. This is in the audible range and consequenly an absolute NoGo.

    50 years of Hip Hop

I want to remember the end of summer vacation five decades ago and Clive Campbell. It was August 11, 1973 when Clive's sister threw a party in the Bronx at the end of their summer vacation there; Clive aka Kool DJ Herc DJed there all evening. In the Bronx they called it a block party back than...

    Popularity of a step-up transformer?

Dave Slagle of Intact Audio is a very good address for high-quality transformers and a very nice guy with a lot of experience. Some of the most renowned manufacturers rely on his skills and products.

    Popularity of a step-up transformer?

Thanks for clarification. But I didn´t say "your experience", I wrote "our experience". ;) And I did that on purpose because listening experience is a highly individual experience and to about 99% driven by psychoacoustics. So understanding the main principles of how SUTs are working, how to...
  7. Don_Camillo

    Popularity of a step-up transformer?

@Solypsa that seems to be a misunderstanding. I said that any SUT needs to match electrically to the cartridge specs as there are inductance, impedance/dc coil resistance as well as it´s output voltag, the capacity and resistance of the phono input stage. That´s the reason why I also said that...

    Popularity of a step-up transformer?

I´m sorry but you did by arguing that people who answered might not have heard the correct SUTs so far or telling me I´d rather post on another forum if I want to see some reliable facts. Furthermore the question was not for the best sounding SUT but why they are so popular and what might be the...
  9. Don_Camillo

    Popularity of a step-up transformer?

You also argued that those who don't seem to share your opinion about the sound of SUTs just haven't heard the really good SUTs yet. May I please return the question nonchalantly? Every decade had had its ToTL SUTs. Have you experience with all of these vintage TOTL SUTs also and...

    Popularity of a step-up transformer?

I already thought of that you might be coming up up with arguments about how it is sounding. You´re wrong with that. A SUT is a technical solution that works perfectly when inductance and impedance/ DC resistance of the MC Cartridge and it´s output voltage as well as capacity and resistance of...

SME 3009 S2 and MC cartridges

It´s all about effective mass and the MC cartridges compliance that needs to match. Sorry, but what is written about arm tube material on the 3009 is nonsense. Otherwise enthusiasts around the world would not be happy with 99% of all tonearms. Aluminum is a very common material for the arm wand...

    Popularity of a step-up transformer?

I wouldn´t call it a benefit in regards of classical HiFi terms but beeing a technical solution. Background is that the lower the output and impedance of a MC cartridge the more complex it becomes to deal with proper amplification. At some point those active MC stages start to hiss slightly and...
