Yes, Mark's told me about how you assisted him with that experiment. I wouldn't characterize the sound after pre-cleaning quite that way, but yes. The highs present themselves pretty well, but they're not fleshed out. The lows are certainly as you describe. I'd say that's a hole in my...

Afternoon Neil. Reading through your response, I'd say I used the wrong word, because I at least have enough of a grasp of the differences you address via the sandpaper analogy, to know I should have taken more care. I should have said the Degritter's ability to dissipate the heat generated by...

Morning Neil: Here's another link for you. These photos were taken during one of my vinegar rinses. The microfiber cloth shows what IPA removed from the splash guards. The filthy drops on the top of the tank sides are also the results of using IPA on a cotton swab. The white etching you see...

Neil: thanks. I'd seen it but it's been awhile. Reviewing it, my initial concerns remain. Now if one were to load up a section of a metal master, now that might address whether some detail is obscured by the conductive coating that has to be placed on the record. At this point at this...

There's no doubt some noise people assume are contaminants are actually damage. In my experience, as the Degritter removes contaminants, it often clears out scratches and pits the stylus didn't really "play" before. Thus, if the record's damaged, it can end up playing worse after proper...

The only way to decide if one cleaning process works better than another for you is to work with them personally, but I will say this - I considered almost every cleaning process I used "good enough" until I found a better process. I also found that as my turntable, cartridge, tonearm, amp...

Neil, this is somewhat off topic, but am I correct in thinking electron microscope imagry is of limited value when trying to assess the cleanliness and condition of a vinyl record groove? My understanding is the process requires deposition of a conductive layer of metal, but I don't know what...

Morning Neil. Now, here's a link to the most boring video ever. This is the static shot of the Degritter MKII I used to time the cycles. I put a watt meter in line, so at one point I bring that into view. - Jim https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#B0e5p3ichE2pde Neil, I certainly hadn't...

Morning Tim. I just pulled up one of the old videos and first off, I find I was incorrect about the total number of rotations through the bath when set on Heavy. It's five, not four, which means I'll need to confirm that the new GUI "4" didn't actually cut one rotation. Anyway, Here are the...

Morning Neil. Yes that's the brush I use. If I said "dry" I mis-spoke. My "dry" routine actually involves using a small bottle of DW, sprayed into the air so I can wave the brush through the mist. I don't think of it as a means of eliminating static, but as a means of assuring the bristles...

Hi Tim. "not a fanboy post." Yeah. I tried to show both sides of the coin, so to speak, but gushing's just not me. It's been quite a journey from the first discs when I did it pretty much the Degritter way, which suggested one Medium cycle (two full rotations through the bath, using OEM cleaning...

Thanks. As with anything, my opinions are mine alone and subject to change as I learn more. I agree that there's likely no process that would ever eliminate the need for hands on work. For me, given I work with a lot of records of unknown provenance, just removing surface debris so I can...

Neil, A quick scan of Chapter XII confirms that I have not read it, or if I have, it obviously didn't sink in. The only part of your book that dealt with brushes that stayed with me was the summary section that noted various brushes I assumed you approved of. Not seeing any caution there...

Neil, this why I was hesitant to even report my results. Not that I mind not being part of consensus, but because my lack or scientific rigor, inability to work with controlled subjects and my plain lousy ability convert one measurment standard to another could easily mean I made too strong a...

Hi Bill. Nice to hear from you - and Neil. 1. You're welcome. I hesitate to write these long pieces, in part because my thick skin's pretty worn through at this point, but you two, and a few others stand out as wanting to help, willing to listen too. 2. What @tima has done is light years...

Hi Neil. At present, no I'm not using Citranox, although I worked with it in conjunction with Liquinox when doing over-the sink cleaning. Even then, I only used Citranox when I felt the record looked so bad I assumed it was going to need a lot of help. I also have used Liquinox followed by...

Lots of users seem quite happy with their results, tossing dirty records right in, doing a "medium," followed perhaps by a rinse. Don't monitor TDS. Use the OEM cleaning concentrate, etc. Beauty is in the ear of the beholder.

@tima @Neil.Antin @Bill Hart - While trying to catch up with all you’ve posted, in preparation for putting up something that outlines what I hope to achieve next in my record cleaning journey (which has been aided tremendously by @r.din ), I came across this Degritter specific thread and thought...

rdin suggested I start following this thread. I'm just in the process of catching up but thought I'd better say hello. I see Neil.Antin here, but understand tima , a new name to me, started the thread. I'll try to get caught up before throwing my few cents in, but for background, I'm now using...
