You must have might right after I left UK at the end of 82. He was still in the Wimbledon house and had the A1s, Krell KSA 50 or the 100 driving them with the Audio Research 5 preamp. Quite a system!
Do you still live there?
david
That’s my thinking too but I don’t want to make any assumptions about the console’s insides. Refurbishing and replacing such consoles with new electronics while keeping the vintage look is a thing, hence my question.
david
Hi Lloyd,
Ricardo and I go back to early 80’s and he was my gateway to the upper high end it’s only natural for him to come up with the Ten. I don’t have direct experience with Elysium amps but I trust Ricci and he must have heard something special to move on from his SS Swiss brand to them.
david
Thank you for the clarification, the answer to your previous question is no. Remastering has nothing to do with thicknesses and vinyl formulation of production. There was no need for unification either we have decades of fantastic LPs from a variety of sources, formulations and thicknesses...
I agree with the first sentence but I don’t know what you mean by remastered industry, are you talking about audiophile labels or remastering as in digital?
Never said they did, used it as an example of limited sonic capability format, they exist.
david
Hi Blackmorec,
He was clear about his stance in regards to sound quality vs CD. Reasons why that is are too varied and mostly undetermined IMO I don’t think anyone can pin down every situation. Simple example streaming the same file with your phone using local Wi-Fi sounds very different from...
Good question, someone should ask Paul. Maybe we should differentiate between downloads from the net and local uploads too. IME there are significant sonic differences between them.
david
Paul’s point was about the nature of streamed media not equipment. Yes equipment and setup is important but nothing can change the nature of the medium and it’s inherent limitations. This reminds me of cassettes and some of those conversations back in the day, Nakamichi’s 600, 700 and 1000...
Well, this polarized poisonous title is currently the most popular new thread on WBF! Also the title is exactly what reader’s question to Paul was and his answer confirms it. You may or may not agree with him, either way I’m fine everyone’s opinion on the subject.
Actually I watched the entire...
Sealing records is very simple, never been hard. In this day and age it doesn’t take much to fake the covers either if there’s money in it.
Out of curiosity what was the album?
david
Yes, there’s another adjustment tube at the base of the arm. Loosen it and then rotate the armrest clockwise to lower the cueing mechanism to where you want.
david
Not only about digital & analog formats, I listen to same music genre on. CD and LP but rarely when they're streamed and vice versa. For me it's purely a question of the medium and involvement. The music I listen stream and listen to is what I'm fine with in the background and would never listen...
Since when do need your permission when in a thread to clarify a point?
Could it be if you were respectful and didn't argue something I never said I wouldn't answer you in that manner?
david
Really more interested in what you stream and if it's your primary over technology and sound quality. I listen differently and to entirely different music when streaming from listening with some other medium that's why I'm curious if the medium dictates or influences what we listen to.
david
Let's be clear David his post wasn't innocent and we both know it, his personal comments are quite clear about his real intent. I've never hidden my feelings about the medium my personal opinion has no relevance to this thread and I've kept it out so it doesn't become an issue.
YouTube...
Not with you Mike, I would have reached out directly if I valued your opinion or even thought you have the slightest clue with what you're doing or hearing! Walk yourself back!
david
Once again you prove your hypocrisy Mike, it's exactly for people like you that I used this video instead of asking the questions directly! You complain about darkness in the forum but you're always jumping into threads making things personal. That's who you are I'm not a pretender like you...
Hi Blackmore,
I started this thread to discuss streaming and it's characteristics hoping to also hear from people who's primary isn't streaming because we don't participate in dedicated streaming threads as well as those who only stream, definitely not to compare formats or to see who's is...
I stopped interacting with him when he kept changing his story about vinyl. First he says he wants to get more into vinyl but prices on discogs and ebay are too high, this is usually for people looking for older records not new ones. After I point him towards other sources he says he want's new...
Alexis Park was when it was fun which included The Show next door, there was an incredible vibe. @Scaena1 is correct about Venetian, the vibe changed. I don’t think regional shows were any real competition to CES international attendance was still strong but it almost died overnight with Munich...
Sure but that doesn't mean there aren’t a lot of good ones out there too, after all we're not the first generation audiophile there were many before us.
I really have no expectations for anyone nor do I care what and how people listen. This is an audio forum and we discuss this stuff otherwise...
I actually had to replace my 30 year old collection after losing it moving back to US and had to start buying again. I agree that ebay and places like discogs aren't for bargain prices but depending on where you live there's an older population who's simply moving to smaller dwellings or have...
I believe the question was about quality not quantity, I'm sure that universally streaming beats every other format. You had to spend over 6 figures for satisfactory results would you say that's typical for the average streamer you quote?
david
Millions and millions of records were pressed during half a century there are still millions of great records out there for a few dollars at most, don't let lack of records be your excuse.
david
My comment said gear in general I wasn't focusing on tts but you can still buy a nicely sorted out Garrard 401 $600-$700, stick in a nice plinth and put it up against some of the popular ones in 5-6 figure range and see for yourself. For obvious reasons we won't get into brands and models.
david
Sometimes more money equals better sound quality not always, personally I equate high end with sound. quality not price. A $500 piece of equipment outperforming a $50k one sonically isn't that uncommon. Maybe we should define what high end means to everyone first?
david
I don't think it's about winning or losing Mike people are aware of the power imbalance in this war rather for raising awareness even if it's in a small group who care and standing up to those who want to force it on everyone.
