Sold my Extremas as my new place in Colorado with an open floor plan isn't suited for lots of equipment, so I replaced them with Dutch & Dutch 8Cs. They were amazing speakers (although I do love the D&D 8Cs), though, and should I get a hankering in the future to go back to traditional...
As I’ve aged, I have elected to simplify and am quite satisfied. MacBook used as a Roon core to Ethernet switch to Dutch & Dutch 8Cs. That is currently my entire system. No interconnects, no power amp, no preamp, no DAC, no streamer. Admittedly, it takes the fun out of tinkering with various mix...
I’ve had the 8C’s for around a month now after having had at least 15 pairs of speakers in the last 20 years. All I can say is I am blown away and 100% satisfied. Streaming Roon, my only component is my laptop. Simply incredible base and clarity. You can’t go wrong with the 8C’s. I haven’t heard...
Two questions:
I’m direct streaming Roon into the speakers and love it. Using the Ethernet power adapters and they’re working like a charm. However, for some reason my Windows PC which I’m using as my core works fine on Wifi but if I connect the Ethernet to the computer it’s glitchy. Why would...
So power adaptor into Ethernet switch and then out of switch to each speaker and Roon core? I have the Cisco switch with several Ethernet ports I used to get optical cables into Lumin X1 so I imagine that will work?
Tom, my router is not near the location of the Dutch and Dutch speakers I intend to purchase in the near future. Will a wireless access point with ethernet cables coming from it work sufficiently with the speakers, or do you think the ethernet cables need to be hardwired into the speakers...
Interesting website. They actually have different applications for two-channel home audio, but they don't go in the wall or ceiling:

Thanks for the reply. My only source will be a Lumin X1 as I exclusively stream Qobuz. Since I want to keep this minimal I probably wouldn’t use subs. .
I’m building a combination office-man cave in a new 950:square foot room addition. I have huge monoblocks and don’t know where to put them as I wish to keep the room clean and minimalist. So I either need some good ideas for obscure locations to keep the amps and ancillary components or I’m...
I just purchased a pair of Mark Levinson 436 monos which double down to 1400 watts at 2 ohms. They really rock the Extremas. I'd love to try them out on a pair of Ktemas; one of these days!
I strongly second Golum’s recommendation to try the 01a, 112a and 71. They can be had for under $100 per pair and they sound every bit as good and dynamic as the typical, far more expensive DHTs. I also have the LampI 45 Anniversary Editions which are excellent if you can find them, but...
Found a just-restored Mark Levinson 432 (2020 boards installed, new caps, resistors raised above the boards to avoid excess heat, etc.) and matching ML preamp to drive the Extremas. So far, it seems like a great match. 400 wpm doubling down to 800 wpm at 4 ohms seems to do the trick with the...
Reviving my thread after having listened to the Extremas for a few months. First of all, I agree that they're keepers. I am enjoying them immensely with all kinds of music. I also have Reference 3A Reflectors, another large monitor. So far I've run the Extremas with MasterSound PF100 monoblocks...
I drove my 57’s with several amps including Pass Aleph 0’s which sounded superb albeit more powerful than the XA25. I just bought a pair of Marantz 9’s which are being restored and I expect them to be the best amps I’ve heard with the Quads.
I have a pair of MasterSound PF 100’s each of which takes 4 845 tubes. It came with the basic Shuguang Hi Fi series tubes. I’m springing for 8 ACME’s and I sure hope I will feel I made a good investment! 8 845 ACME’s are a pretty penny!
