Acoustic Drywall Sound Absorption vs. Transmission

Thanks for the tip. Seems like there are several styles of channels and clips? Any recommendations on gauge and clips? I was looking at http://www.soundproofingcompany.com/soundproofing101/furring-channel-with-resilient-sound-clips/

Acoustic Drywall Sound Absorption vs. Transmission

Hi, Any dry wall products or installation techniques to reduce sound reflections? I have a detached home, so sound transmission is not an issue. It would seem that the material in front and behind the drywall would have the greatest effect because of their thickness. But what about...

Audio Electrical Subpanel/Circuit Breakers - Isoclean Zero Ohm

Room is underway. Three meter chemical grounding rod is here. Notice the width next to my shoe! http://www.lightningprotection.com/gaf/ The rod is back-filled with bentonite. Now just need to select 2AWG conductors to power the subpanel...

    Pierre Boulez has died

I'm a fan of his Bartok and Stravinsky in particular. Rhythmic incisiveness is correct. However, his DG recordings often sounded a touch forward and bright. For those looking to try, Rite of Spring on DG (although many would argue his earlier was more emotional and better), and Bartok's Mandarin...

    Tripoint troy signature grounding device

My recollection is about 48 hours for the initial settling-in, then continuous improvement for the next 1-2 months. What does it sound like? Music. Don't worry about the analysis. Everything just flows in the right way. There are plenty of descriptions out there, and yet it defies...

    REVIEW: Pass Labs XS 150, XA160.8, XA160.5

Hi Peter, I'm trying to read between the lines and press you a little about a value analysis. If cost is no concern and everything else is totally optimized, sure on the XS150. Do you think the 160.5 remains the one to beat for the price? There is a vast differential in cost.

Tesseract, an overview from an Avalon insider's perspective

If I've learned one thing in audio, it's that if Steve is excited about something, I should be paying super close attention. I had the honor of visiting with Steve and Neil, listening to Tesseract, and learning just a fraction of what went into it's compulsive design and ambitious construction...

    I did it!!!!!!!! Avalon Isis

I think with Rex amps and Rex 2 preamp, this is going to be an outstanding combination. I would love to hear sometime. Interested to hear comparisons to your prior speaker - is it similar with more bass, or different from top to bottom.

    Just heard the Avalon Time...

I heard the Isis with Bat 150 monoblocks in a smaller room when Steve Huntley was a dealer. They sounded great, and I sometimes thought about trying BAT amps in my current set-up. Steve now works for Avalon. You might consider emailing him for advice.

    Just heard the Avalon Time...

Isis is a destination speaker, once dialed-in, there is little desire to consider anything else. However, it requires room, power, and expensive upstream elements to reach its potential. It may take 1-2 years to optimize. I've know more people who couldn't get them to work, than those who could...

Diamond tweeter implemented on the Isis is pristine and phenomenal, when you figure-out your wiring and components configuration.

Audio Electrical Subpanel/Circuit Breakers - Isoclean Zero Ohm

Hi, I am creating a new listening room, and would like to have a good foundation for power. I was looking at the Isoclean Zero-ohm 100 amp subpanel, and was wondering if anyone had experience or alternative products. I was not interested to install balanced power or a power generator. I...

    Tripoint Orion & Spartan

It is. I also think the NVS power cables into the Spartan, cables grounded through Troy, are important.

    Tripoint Orion & Spartan

I have my entire system plugged into the Spartan. Whereas the Troy categorically made everything sound better, the Spartan lets you hear your system and the recording. Recommended.

    Tripoint emperor : a breakthrough

I prefer to characterize the Troy and Emperor as a unique component that acts as a sink to remove as much degrading electronic noise as possible. We would probably all benefit from not calling it a grounding device. There really is no category of component into which this fits. It does not...

    Pass Labs .8 Series!

I appreciate MadFloyd's critical listening and honesty in these threads. So many people make blanket statements about equipment, and in reading opinions, one might believe there is no such thing as a bad piece of audio equipment. In my experience, newer or more expensive is not always better...

    Tripoint troy signature grounding device

LL21 and Audiocrack, I might suggest you speak with Nathan at NVS Sound and have him make a Silver 1 Power Cable with shielding that sinks to the Troy. Put the cable on your power conditioner or transport. The Troy opens up a new world of possibilities. Violins will bring tears of joy with the...

    Tripoint troy signature grounding device

And I might speculate that for those who have the most rigorous and dedicated electrical supplies to their audio room, such as some people on this thread, would hear a far greater improvement with the Troy than those living in apartments. The thing about the Troy is that the better your system...

    Tripoint troy signature grounding device

Lloyd, I'm looking forward to your assessment. I agree it will take a little time for the Troy to settle into your system. At least several weeks, if not longer. Last year, there was a period of time when my system sounded broken. I just couldn't get into the music. The sound was flat and out...

    From Avalon to ???

Have you tried repositioning the speakers by making them wider, pointing them straight forward, or moving them closer to the back wall? Another option is to try the Elrod Power Cords. Their sonic quality is enhanced lower midrange fullness and definition. What about moving up the Avalon...

High Fidelity Cables CT-1 speaker cables

Sounds like these are very good cables. I remain in absolute awe of the NVS Sound Power Cables which feature huge magnetic modules among many other elements which, for me, redefined what a system can do in musical terms.

Pass Lab owners - Check in!

I'm still loving my XA200.5s. The XS300s have me concerned in terms of heat, current draw on the power conditioner, and price. I probably couldn't listen to music from May through October with that kind of heat, as the XA200.5s are uncomfortable enough during the summer for short listens.

    Avalon Tesseract

My initial reaction is very positive. This photo may only be a rendering. I like how they integrated the cabinets much better compared to the Sentinel. The angles and design appear very complex and unlike any other speaker. The Isis are physically imposing and stunning - I can only imagine what...
