    Antipodes K50 set up help

Hi guys I've got a demo K50 coming over next week, I'm just looking for a bit of advice on set up. I am not in the slightest bit technically minded, so please speak to me as if I'm the most stupid man on the planet ;) I'll be using it as a player only by copying my music onto the internal...

    Entreq Tellus grounding

Hi Iam I plugged it into a spare socket in the wall. I liked what it did initially, but once I added a couple of Poseidons I found it detracted so I sold it. Hope that helps….

Home Dac test - Legacy Boulder VS Bartok VS Bel Canto E1X

It’s been around 6 years since I’ve had itchy feet re my DAC’s performance against newer models. The last time I tried MBS, TotalDac, antelope and Bricasti among a few others. Back then I found that Dac quality at similar price points was more alike than different, tending to offer a slightly...

Triangle Speakers from France. Emotional Experience (vs. Cerebral Accuracy). Any fans?

I’ve owned the range right up to the Quators. My favourite box speakers by a mile, strengths being superb fast bass, and emotion that you just don’t get from other speakers.I’ve had Revel Salon 2’s, B&W 800D2’s and various Wilson’s, and none could touch the Triangles. Two things to bear in mind...

    Entreq Tellus grounding

Hi everyone I'm looking for a little advice after recently dipping my toes into the Entreq water.....I have a really good dealer, but I don't want to be bothering all the time. 1. I started off just trying a Primer Pro power cable on my power conditioner - very impressed. 2. Got my hands on a...

Compression drive units - some advice needed

Hi guys My speakers use Viavox S5’s which are turning 30 this year. Just wondering what’s the story with maintenance/servicing? I’ve read that the magnets need re-magnetised etc. Does the charge just naturally dissipate over time and does this affect the units SQ? Are there any other parts that...

Hard wiring speaker cables to cross-overs - any real sonic benefits?

Thanks Cal My cross overs are in a separate compartment away from any driver enclosure, so that’s not a problem. Though I would get some kind of rubber bung to keep the wire in place and affix the cable up the cabinet so there isn’t any weight pulling on the wire too.... Did you note much...

Hard wiring speaker cables to cross-overs - any real sonic benefits?

Im looking for a bit of advice Some of my spades and banana plugs are getting a bit ropey and due a change. But my x-over is really easy to access, so I am if just soldering the speaker cable directly to the x-over wires would be better, or do you foresee any problems? Surely removing plugs and...

JCAT USB XE or Pink Faun Ultra OCXO?

Just a quick update..... I received the JCAT XE a couple of days ago. Right off the bat it is stunning. A very large improvement over the standard JCAT card that I’ve had for c.5 years, which in itself was a massive step up from the built in souncard. I dropped Marcin a quick PM to offer my...

Sean Jacobs DC3 power supply in da house

After reading Fourlegs review of the Sean's DC4 power supply, I thought I'd take the plunge and replace my (ageing) Longdog/MCRU power supply, which was £850 c.10 years ago...perhaps £1200 in todays money? The Longdog/MCRU was custom made for my server, to replace the switched mode power supply...

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

Thanks Peter that’s very helpful, particularly re Sugden. There’s more and more using a Class D with horns nowadays....for some reason they just seem to work...the excellent S/N/R’s is always a good start....

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

We’re in a very small club then! Did you do much in the way of amp swapping or just using SETs?

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

Custom made source with all the usual power supplies and Uptone trappings...Boulder 1012 pre/dac (the best piece of HiFi I’ve ever had) and at the minute Temple Audio monos with the Supercharger power supplies, those little buggers are incredible for the money...seen off some pretty exotic...

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

Sorry Bill I missed part of your post. Well they weren’t flat to 45hz, more like 52hz but they were only down around 6db from 52hz to 45hz which I don’t mind as I prefer a tighter, lighter, faster sound in the bass. The drivers are Vitavox compression drivers (AK157 IIRC) and the horn is...

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

I’ve tried a pile of valve amps. Sets, otl’s, the lot...from £2k to £20k. I didn’t like any of them. Every time I switched back to my Class D’s there was a sigh of relief. They were clearer, more detailed, quieter, had better attack and massively better bass than every valve amp I tried. To be...

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

Congratulations - did you get your friend pair? I researched the speakers on the net thinking about the Lamm ML3's. Yep I had two friends with a pair each and was offered both pairs. I wish I’d taken both now but hey ho. I upgraded the cabling in mine from the original Hitachi to the upper...

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

What are you doing below 70hz? Twin DB1’s. But not 70hz. In room mine were measuring flat to c.45hz, so the DB.1’s are rolled off at 45hz with a 12db slope...

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

The question that IMHO is fundamental in this thread: what brand and type are your horn speakers? Living Voice Air Partners, essentially the same as the Vox’s but more transparent and better IMO...

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

So there doesn’t appear to be a commercially made amp with the kind of specs I’m looking for...looking likely to be a custom build then?

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

He also said the Pass kits wouldn’t have low enough noise for my speakers (something to do with mosfets in the input stage?) ....here’s what he said: “One of the prices you pay for the ultimate in low parts count, most direct signal path etc in many of these low power class A designs is low...

Flea powered (sub10w) Class A Solid State Power amplifier required. But do they exist?

Interesting re the Hiragana. An engineer had told me that it was the best power amp he’d ever heard BUT only if built properly. Apparently he’d had a few home built ones across his bench that were just hopelessly out of spec - here’s the convo: “Hiraga le monstre actually gives around 7W or so...
