Applicability of RT60 and measurement thereof to "small acoustic spaces."

I'm pretty sure you know a higher Tm than recommended can be nice. I think Bob Walker was the head of the group that developed the EBU 3276 and he designs studios with high Tm so we can keep 0,2 as a common recommendation, not a dogma.

    Audibility of single reflections

:D:D:D:D:D:D Thanks Don, the "TM" confused me and English is not my native tongue.

    Audibility of single reflections

This year as far I remind I've worked in about 5 studios, 1 home cinema, 2 Hi-End rooms and 2 churches and as this part of the forum belongs to Dr. Olive, I wanted to have an advice from him, especially because he's coauthor of the psychoacoustic papers I'm using. It's more important to...

    Audibility of single reflections

I think we should clarify this because I found several people that misunderstood Toole's book and said "Toole says lateral reflections are good and then he places lateral absorbers". Lateral reflections are very important in big halls and sometimes Toole quotes Barron, a nice and easy to...

    Audibility of single reflections

I can't believe they sell that. I use a measuring tape provided that 1 m equals 2,93 ms but nowadays you can use REW with an ECM8000 to get the ETC and use the method to identify the reflections. Also with CAD it's very easy to do that using the mirror image of the source.

    Audibility of single reflections

I'm designing and measuring some rooms and most of all I use EBU 3276 recommendations. An important part is that about reflections and the criterion is they should be under -10 dB compared to direct sound. I use octave filtered ETC in the frequencies that allow such analysis, I think that's what...

    Stillpoints Aperture Acoustic Panels

Resonators are absorbers, so your three functions became two. You can't diffuse what you absorbed, so... you can only diffuse the fraction of energy you don't absorb so when I hear about "3 in 1" solutions I can only think in marketing. I'd suggest you to research what's wrong with your room...

    Bass directivity and room modes

That's right but you can look at the other side of the coin and you'll see that when you only excite the modes of one dimension some problems can occur at higher frequencies so it's not simply better. It's just a different approach. I use bass dipoles (Apogee Stages) and I simulate them using...

RPG Modex Plates (35Hz) placement question

I use Smaartlive in Transfer mode, it's nice and quick.

How bad is this room response?

Those are a pair of in-room measurements of a pair of Sashas

Standardization And The Use Of Audyssey

I'm sorry I don't understand anything... 1. Reference level? Like Katz's K System? 2. You mean it does an equalization according to Fletcher-Munson curves? That would be terribly awful! 3. Timbre matching?? That means absolutely distortion free or what? 4. Room and speaker correction? There...

Standardization And The Use Of Audyssey

No I don't, but I'll be glad to hear what's that thing never done before.

Standardization And The Use Of Audyssey

I don't think you can make standards that easy, of course you can make recommendations. Psychoacoustics is not an easy field and you can't have reliable measurements of what's audible or not, disappointing or pleasant. I also think that DSP is not a good idea to deal with reflections as they are...

    Testing of Dipoles

Hi wineslob, I'm living here for one month, I used to have a small room with a pair of small monitors (the ones on the shelf) and a fitted sub. When I arrived here I thought it was the time to have something bigger and I started a serious DIY design using JBL 2226H with a diffuser to improve...

    Testing of Dipoles

My English isn't very good and that "heck out" is confusing me as much as the TacT :) My point of view is that high reverberation is a bless for my Apogees. Please remember reverb is only a slope so I need a big step in ETC to make it sound good. Microphone/ears are placed 2,9 m (9.5 ft)...

    Testing of Dipoles

Well, when I spoke about dipoles I was thnking about full dipoles. I don't like the hybrid solution because of it's great difference in dispersion between the drivers. That causes the bass balance to be very dependent on the distance. Since last week I'm owner of a pair of Apogee Stages and I...

    Testing of Dipoles

Hi Rob. I'm not Sean but maybe I can help you. Of course dipoles are different! All of the energy is sent frontside and backwards. Floor, side walls and ceiling first order reflections are almost nothing and the reflections coming from the front wall can be very strong. I don't like rules but...

    Hi from Spain

Actually not, I don't like football anymore. Maybe next year... I prefer rugby, when I watch an England-Sotland match on the Six Nations I feel deep emotions, when I'm watching a Madrid-Barça I ask myself why those millionaires are running after a ball if they pretend they were attacked...

What's the best headphone amp you have heard?

Stax Lambdas, after them any other would sound as a toy. I listened to 2 different versions and I think the older ones sounded better but I'm not sure, I don't like listening with headphones and I wouldn't spend so much money.
