    Oxford Acoustics Crystal Reference

Unfortunately, not! My Crystal Reference was serial number CR-051, so obviously a few were sold, although probably not all in the UK. I have a mate, who now lives near me, who has one in Black Ash finish.

    Oxford Acoustics Crystal Reference

Howard left us in March 2023. He was 72. My first introduction to Howard Popeck and Subjective Audio, was in early 1981, when I purchased a pair of Linn Isobarik PMS active speakers from him, powered by a six-pack of Boothroyd-Stuart Meridian 105S power amps, with electronic crossovers...

    New pink fuse from SR

The introduction of the SR Pink fuse was announced on April 1st, so I wasn't convinced at first ......... I have one Master fuse (first UK 13A mains plug, from wall to Aletheia PSU2 balanced mains distribution) one Purple in the mains PC (which I was given, free of charge), feeding power to my...

    Oxford Acoustics Crystal Reference

I don't know how I missed this thread! I am the friend, referred to above, by Hugo (Shuggie). The Oxford Acoustics Crystal reference turntable was designed by a surgeon, Fraser Shaw and together with his business partner, Jonathan Harker (later and currently, proprietor of Oxford Audio...

Congratulations! You have a lovely system! As a UK- based CR1 MK II owner, I would be interested if you could please expand on the advice to improve your system, that you received from Taritani-san. Thank you Steve

    Melco S100 audiophile switch

I have had ADOT with Plixir Elite Balanced LPSU on extended home evaluation for the past couple of months. It takes an ethernet feed (Sablon 1m) from a TP-Link AC2800 router (12v LPSU-powered). The supplied 1.5m fibre optic cable from the ADOT feeds into the SFP in the Uptone Audio EtherREGEN...

    Breaking news from DCS….

I received my "Apex-upgraded" Vivaldi DAC back from dCS, two weeks ago and have about 80 hours of burn-in so far. Two immediate things I noticed: 1. It's louder! I had to adjust my 'normal' listening volume on my D'Agostino HD preamp, from 12 o' clock, to 11 o' clock! 2. The bass is more...

Lampizator Horizon v. dCS Vivaldi Apex Listening Comparison

For me, adding a Mutec Ref 10 SE-120 10MHz reference clock to my dCS Vivaldi full stack, elevated the performance over the use of the dCS Master Word Clock by itself. I would describe the sound as more palpable, with a lower system noise floor and greater musicality! I am registered for the...

    Breaking news from DCS….

As a UK Vivaldi stack owner, so far, I have only read Apex upgrade suggested costs in US Dollars or Euros! Today, I received a telephone call from my UK dCS dealer, Studio AV (Chobham), who confirmed that the Apex upgrade to my Vivaldi DAC, would be £6,000 including VAT and that dCS had...

An experiment with passive horizontal bi-amping.

The description of my experience with using two TAD M2500 MKII power amps in horizontal bi-amped mode, is described in my original text in this thread! You must understand, that it was a BRIEF experiment, conducted over a few days, with additional cables that I had borrowed from a dealer...

An experiment with passive horizontal bi-amping.

Not back to back! I did try a pair of Vitus mono-blocs, kindly loaned by KOG, the UK importer, a couple of years ago! I'm hoping to try a pair of these some time in 2022, which promise to offer the best of both worlds!

I bought a portable LED dimmable reading lamp from Amazon UK for about £20 GBP. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07DRFRG9Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It has a rechargeable battery fitted, with a USB plug to accept a cable from an appropriate charger, so no permanent...

    Speaker decoupling options

My TAD CR1 MKII stand-mounts (46Kg) come with TAD's matching stands (18Kg) which are of a dense wood construction! Several options exist for the floor interface, including steel cones that screw into the underneath of the stands to form a stable tripod. You can, of course, use nothing, as the...

    Feets/platforms experiences under your TADs...

I use a stereo pair of REL Gibraltar G2 (sealed enclosure and 10" bass drivers) subs, crossed over at 30 Hz and placed so as to even out the peaks/nulls to attain a more even in-room bass response. Room size is 22' X 18.5' X 8' and well-treated with Acustica Applicata DAAD room tuning cylinders!

    Feets/platforms experiences under your TADs...

I have recently moved from a trio of Stillpoints Ultra 5 footers under my TAD CR1 stands, to mounting them on a pair of Townshend Audio Seismic Podium platforms. IMHO, a big step up in performance, with more detail coming through, better imaging and tighter, deeper bass, due to removal of the...

An experiment with passive horizontal bi-amping.

    1. Agreed. My bi-wire links are made of the same wire as my speaker cables. 2. I would have liked a pair of TAD M600 mono blocs, I auditioned and were being sold, mint, ex-demo for £30K (I don't know the dollar equivalent), but they are balanced only, XLR connections and my beloved CJ GAT 2 is...

An experiment with passive horizontal bi-amping.

I have recently been on the hunt for a replacement power amp for my system. I currently use a Conrad Johnson Premier 350SA (solid state) to power my current-hungry TAD CR1 MKII speakers, which are 86db efficient and a nominal 4 Ohm load! The CJ power amp is good for 600 watts into 4 Ohms and has...

Avidlistener Can I ask what sources and amplification you use with your CR1's? I am a UK owner of TAD CR1MKII's (the first stand-mount speaker I have ever owned) and they have been in my system for over five years now. My main digital source is a dCS Vivaldi full stack, re-clocked by a Mutec...
