Personally, I would spend your money having a pro like Sterling Trayle come out and spend a couple of days optimizing the system you have now. it Is the most significant dollar for dollar upgrade you can make.
I have found a pretty consistent audio truth, most dealers badmouth what they don’t carry and praise every small revision of what they do carry to be a “must have” upgrade. Once they pick up the line they previously dissed, it becomes the new panacea.
I’ve had 8 gauge speaker wire, lower end...
I’ve had Transparent Audio cable though out my system for the last 8 years and love them. I have gone up a couple of levels in each cable and always enjoy the sonics being increasingly musical throughout the audio spectrum, moving closer to “being there,“ and being, well, transparent.
I...
My estate plan leaves the stereo to whoever winds up executing said estate plan. The two executors noted both enjoy the stereo. In the notes attached to my estate plan, I let them know it is expensive and, if they decide to sell it instead of keep it, gave them links and phone #s to resources...
By far, the best improvement to my stereo is having Stirling Trayle come out and optimize my system! Huge improvement in sound!
Next is a group thing, which was when I replaced my respectable mid-fi system with a true hi-fi system.
My wife is well aware of what the stereo costs because she helped select most of the components. She now winces when I upgrade because the cost to better gear is becoming substantial…in our world anyway. I have one buddy who comes over for monthly listening sessions who has a good idea of the...
@Karen Sumner, this is a terrific letter. My wife was pleasantly tolerant when we got in a position in life which allowed me to get a “nice” stereo after having generic gear for 30-years. She helped me pick out the speakers but the electronics were mine to select. The gear had to fit her design...
Thanks for your experience! I would have most certainly installed a top module backwards, dropped it, or something . We wanted to install new flooring in the near future. My wife made sure it was finished before the pro set-up so we never had to move the speakers. She also made sure we had...
@Karen Sumner and @Another Johnson , thanks for your very thoughtful replies! Due to finances, I have to stay with the tasting menu instead of diving into the entree or full feast menus. Given the enjoyment I’ve gotten from my Gen5 Super and the Ultra cabling, I am confident Gen6 Reference...
I realize this thread has long been out to sleep, but has any Gen 6 “technology“ been used in power cables, digital cables, or analog cables below the Reference level?
I have Gen 5 Ultra balanced and speaker cables and premium power cables throughout. I want to upgrade but don’t know if Ultra...
Ah! I took Phoenix from the thread title. I only asked because someone suggested Stirling Trayle to you. Stirling set up my system and he is a master! He was the best value of any “upgrade” I’ve done. He is a great guy, too. Enjoy your music!
Thanks all! I will certainly post pictures and try to describe how they sound.
Ationg, they are the original Atria. I bought the store demos from Andrew at Esoteric Audio in Phoenix, AZ. Andrew is a great guy and he has a wonderful shop.
I have a pair of Rockport Atrias being delivered and set up this Sunday! ;). My room is 15'x22' and I will be driving them with a McIntosh MA-6600 integrated amp (200 watts solid state). My dealer was able to let me hear them in a similar living room and with components reasonably comparable to...
