static display only

passive air damped (no powered vacuum pump) suspension 380 kg

approximately €240,000

tonearm sold separately

They expect to demo the turntable next year in Munich.

It looks about 50% bigger than a Clearaudio Statement.

I see you've ordered a Basis Audio Work of Art - not orderer's remorse with this posting I hope..!

Seriously, I'm wondering what your turntable selection objectives were, what options you considered, and the pros and cons of each alternative that allowed you to narrow your choice to the Basis. Interested in your thought process as I'm likely in the market in the next year (but doubt I'll spend that much - Have to save money for beer). Thanks

Hi Ron,
Are you sure its passive suspension? That means you either have to hand pump the stand manually or the bladders are permanently sealed with air or whatever he uses.

Looks like that there's a key of sorts on the controller, is there a lock?

to be fair, 4 months ago I gave it a 20% chance to be at the next Munich show and here it is. to be fair to me; it's not yet actually working (evidently a year away) that anyone can see.....but no doubt they are working on it.

so best wishes for it to become an actual working tt that meets it's very high objectives. who would not want a tt such as this? it's a dream.

I'm guessing that they are asking for money (deposits) to be used to complete development and fund production.

I would be very cautious before I gave any deposit in hope of delivery on a timetable. maybe money in escrow based on specific performance is how I would approach it if I just had to own one. and I would be sure to verify that it did perform as it was represented that it would prior to payment.

might get quite interesting to see how this plays out.

Only comment I have: It's UGLY. But I guess tastes will differ.

Your future Basis turntable, Ron, is much more beautiful!

Not impressed as I mentioned in another thread. No active isolation, no vacuum hold down equals fail in my book given the estimated price. Who wants a washing machine sized TT in their listening room to begin with ?

If it took that monstrosity to play vinyl then I'd switch to digital

No, not at all!

Acoustical Systems, for the present time, does not remotely pass my "real product from a real company with longevity of business" test.

I liked for many years the sound and build quality of the Basis Audio Inspiration. A friend of mine from New Jersey has had a Basis Ovation for over 20 years. I got to know A.J. personally and professionally, and I admire him as an engineer with a musician's sensitivity. His products and company certainly pass my real product from and real and stable and long-lived company test. A.J. will service any product he has ever made.
