Dear everyone

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas with family, loved ones and great music.

I'm moving into a new apartment and trying to analyze my new listening room for the best possible HiFi experience. I've attached a photo with the room dimensions, including the placement of my speakers, amplifier, and listening chair, to give a clearer picture of my setup.

Currently, I have a pair of Audio Note AN-J/D speakers, which I’ve enjoyed thoroughly. However, I recently received a very tempting offer from my local Audio Note dealer in Copenhagen to upgrade to the Audio Note AN-E/SPe HEMP. Before I make a decision, I wanted to hear your thoughts.

Room Details:
  • Dimensions: See attached photo.
  • Listening Position: Centrally located, with a slightly nearfield listening configuration.
  • Current Gear: Entry-level Audio Note AN-J/D, paired with a Sansui AU 9500, a custom made turntable in rosewood with a Denon 103R that has a Jelco HS-30 head shell and is amplified by a ProJect Tube Box S2.
Musical Preferences:
I primarily listen to jazz and classical music. My priorities are:
  • A romantic, deep, and warm sound with a focus on musicality and detail.
  • The ability to hear and feel the texture of drum brushes, alongside the crisp, clear notes in a piano solo.
  • Immersive soundstage and an emphasis on the acoustic elements of music.
Questions:
  1. Are the AN-J/D speakers a good match for this room, or would they struggle with the size (or the opposite?
  2. Would upgrading to the AN-E/SPe HEMP offer a noticeable improvement for jazz and classical in this space?
  3. Any considerations for acoustics or placement that I should factor in with the Audio Note corner-placement philosophy?
  4. Are there any other room treatments to consider? Obviously I will have curtains but I'm also considering a large rug in the center of the room. My books (I have quite a few) and my records will be placed around the room and I think that they will also c
I’m leaning towards upgrading but want to ensure it’s the right move for my listening room and preferences. Any advice, particularly from those familiar with Audio Note speakers or similar room setups, would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help!

AN is certainly great for classical & jazz.

Room treatments are on a case by case basis.
I sold my house this year so now I've a apartment now as well. My 2 setups are done up for casual listening with critical listening I use my Stax headphones. If I buy another house then I'll deal with room corrections at that time.

Audio Note tends to sound best with other AN products, just my opinion. I would suggest maybe doing some upgrades on your system components to possibly all AN components before considering room treatments unless you're totally happy with your current sound and feel that there's nothing to upgrade.

Just my opinions. :)

Want to ask about dimensions. In the photo the units used are in mm. Converting to inches and feet the dimensions make more sense using cm. Did you intend to use cm?

Well, using mm is easy to calculate when you want centimeters, american.
If your room is 455mm wide as is stated in the photo then converting to inches (25.4 mm per inch) the room is 17.91 inches wide?

Well, using mm is easy to calculate when you want centimeters, american.
Sure. So, your room is .485m x .455m and only .266m ceiling height? Are you sure those are not the dimensions of your speaker?
