Best cartridges for a current-mode (transimpedance) phonostage

You'll want a low internal impedance cartridge for optimal matching with a current amplification phono. The good news is there are plenty to choose from.

I'm particularly fond of the Fuuga (https://www.konus-audio.com/fuuga.html, 2.5 ohms) but heads up I'm the US importer so take that recommendation with the appropriate amount of salt.

Well Gestalt, I do take it with a large grain of salt. If you didn't agree with the product I expect you would represent some other line rather than the Fuuga. Thank you very much! I was expecting that going lower in internal impedance was the correct path!

I tried a Hagerman Piccolo zero transimpedance head amp with a Transfiguration Proteus and an SPU Century and was surprised that the Proteus was quieter through it than the SPU as it has nigh on half the impedance for a similar output. I tried various DIP settings but I’d already set the maximum gain and both were running at a lower level than through my SUT (1:26), which also sounded a good deal better. Now the Hagerman is considerably cheaper than my SUT but I found nothing in the sound to encourage me to explore further, though I did try a 24V linear power supply I had handy (Naim Hicap) before abandoning it.
