Our right to exercise free will has been reaffirmed. Of course the right to prove scientifically that we are not really hearing anything is reserved. Audiophiles love their distortion. Tube and vinyl delivers it in spades. One could conclude then what they are reall saying is we are free to indulge our singular or collective delusions. No they don't use the term delusion. What is it when you hear something that is not real? Auditory illusions (hearing voices) can be the basis for psychosis. Our delusions are basically harmless the tell us. No harm no foul. Other than being separated from some hard earned cash, no animals were injured.

I could paraphrase the Irish Spring commercial. "Manly yes but I like it ,too. Distortions yes, but I like it too. Words like warmth, euphonic. rolled off are offered as an olive branch. I understand why you like it. Science demands that I piont out it is just not accurate, To what? The source. Don't worry. After all you can do whatever you like. I'll just be over here trying to prove you are the victim of charlatans and snake oil salesman.Thqt is to say the differences you claim are not only inferior but often non-existent.

Sorry I am not buying it. I think they would love to see vinyl, tubes and the entire audiophile vocabulary disappear. They certainly would prefer to see some reviewers and manufacturers disappear. The attacks are vile, relentless and mostly based on anything but science. Vinl could disappear, Tubes could disappear. Ironically hi res and Redbook CD are under attack. It's good enough is the constant refrain.
When I call someone a flat earther , I mean someone who demands proof of issues that have already been settled. The challenger always wants another shut at the title. They make inconsistent arguments. People love distortion. OTOH The better it measures the more people like it.
I find it worrisome because it burns energy to defend it. Energy that could be used to advance the SOTA.

Yeah, it's been a bit hard on the religious around here lately. Groucho and JJ have come along. Amir has gotten a bit more direct. And the few of us who have had of trouble just taking it when constantly beaten over the head with how harsh, brittle, fatiguing, unnatural, high fidelity to the recording is, and how much closer to real music coloration is....we've have had a little help in making our case. I wouldn't exactly say you guys have been outnumbered, but you've finally been matched in numbers. Outgunned. And, as always, painfully short of ammunition.

I hope you do understand that it all would have been left alone (and we would have been left with little to talk about) if vinyl had honestly been presented as a preference. But it was not. It was consistently, insistently, often abrasively presented as superior to our preference. And you're wrong. Everything but your preference says so. Your side's mistake? You have insisted that, while we're right, we admit our error. Ours'? Pride.

So now something close to an equal number of voices has come forth to say that the magic of vinyl is distortion (I prefer coloration but they're technically identical). And the crown prince of vinyl has even made a statement that backs that up. And the substance is, as always, against you. Your opinions are really all you have. So keep them. Enjoy what you hear. And when the folks with the only rational points in the discussion allow that your records can sound good, that it is a legitimate preference, that even overwhelming expectation bias is a normal human phenomenon, not delusion, don't start a thread whining about how you've been abused. Take it, man. It's a gift.

Hello Gregadd

So whats the deal??? Your complaining about the otherside beating you over the head?? What's with these posts?? First the attack on DBT now this one?? I don't see any Vinyl Sucks posts or Solidstate is better than tubes posts. All I see are you trying to play whackamole. Wonder how long this one will last.

Rob:)

Good morning, gentlemen. I would like to reiterate that our goal here at the WBF is to have a friendly place where everyone shares ideas and information without the level of bickering and angst that other forums tend to create. Disagreement and debate is certainly allowed but not disparagement of any individual, hostile personal attacks or constant bickering back and forth. Especially when this level of angst spreads across the forum from one thread to another.

With that said, thread closed.

I would like to remind everybody that your forum administrators rule with a gentle hand. But should the occasion arise where we must take immediate and strong action, we will do so. In that case, our decisions are not subject to debate.

Tom
