It attenuates power to improve compatibility with highly efficient speakers (so that the amplifier is used at a level where it performs at its best, rather than somewhat below that). It's meant to be used with darTZeel amps and preamps only.

Indeed, @newbluesuit is correct. I have a pair -9 dB. Very useful with my >100dB efficient horns with a ~2.5-3m listening distance.
