Ok, the way the post went, though you’re going to get the GoldNote phono too. I found another Art Audio piece but I like further insight on this preamp before I acquire ot. Any dislikes? Found anything else that beats it?
Its excellent. you can get them at ridiculously low prices since K&K isn't around anymore (unsupported I believe since Kevin retired). You wont be able to do better at the price. Last I spoke to Kevin mine weas one of 5 units he built that were super duper special lol. Hand selected parts etc.
How are you able to tell if it’s one of those units? One time there was a listing on USAM that claimed that piece went through the show circuit and asked for $2500 that was never sold. There’s another one for $1795 that still up for sale for over 8 months ago.
I found out by accident. I called and spoke to Kevin and had a question about the caps inside. He asked me to describe what I saw. I told him and he said "oh, you have one of only 5 units I ever produced of that product." There is the standard version, The Super Max version.Then a version that was not widely available (only to select people) The unit had all hand selected parts. The caps were selected according to the area of the circuitry they are used. He said those were the best available parts at the time of build and probably still are. I lucked out. I dont believe the person I bought it from even knew. He did not advertise it as so. I am not giving this one up. They will have to pry it from my dead cold hands lol
Lucky you got a unique piece. I will negotiate with the available piece soon as I can and hope I have one of those specially made pieces too.
