Introducing My System

I don't understand, I said systems, not system. Anyway, not interested in trolling from someone who thinks all classical live in the US was amplified.

Let's go, boys! The latest tone design!

I think you and I definitely don't hear the same.
I am hearing only the sound of your video - you are hearing both the sound of your video and your system in your room, which means that you cannot be objective about the videos. I assume you know that, since you are posting them on a public forum and inviting people to comment.

P.S. if you want valuable feedback, you should post comparisons of the speakers with and without your modifications.
Without going into too much detail and explaining active systems again, these are technically not modifications. Anyway, I don't mind the comment per se, I quite simply say that what I hear in the video and what you hear in the video definitely tells me we don't hear the same.

I know what active systems are, and you do seem to mind. Enjoy.

I cannot mind someone having a different taste than me. Stop trying to put a negative spin on things.

Project much , not gonna argue audio with a Bank teller , because he happens to have a pr of horn tweeters on his Tuk-tuk ..!

Absolutely happy with this sound. I love the tone and the dynamics. The big change is the class A Pass Labs XA30.8 on the Clarisys Midrange Tweeter. Now we have class A tube and solid state on the highs and mids, while Karans take care of the bass and mid-bass.

Looks great, and sounds terrific!, TS! Ron Resnick has been experimenting with bi-amping via tubes, but not yet going to an external crossover. I'm interested in knowing more about your Cortex DSP. Is that a kit or a finished hardware piece?

Hey Gary! Thanks for the kind words! Cortex is a brainchild of mine -- basically a tube-buffered 8 channel digital active crossover, streamer and preamp with rectifier tubes in the power supply as well. Mine is the first one we put together, but now a buddy of mine has liked it so much we are finishing for him the first finalized/productized one. No plans outside of that for it though as I simply can't find the time.

Very cool again. Can you estimate the lowest power class A amp/current amp that you can use on the midrange ribbon without compromising results? Did Florian cite any limitations?

Sounds great through my headphones.

So the main issue with amps on the midrange is the relatively low impedance of the MRT at certain frequencies. In that sense, Pass Labs is doing a bang up job, being stable at these impedances. The bias dial on the X30.8 never moves so I guess the amp is staying well within its class A limits. On the other hand, the 300B SET mono blocks just couldn't handle the load and the MRT was "flapping in the wind" at higher SPLs so to say, clearly indicating that the amps are struggling at low impedances. So for MRT alone (and with my current high pass for MRT -- 12db/oct @ 670hz), I would say that XA30.8 is sufficient, and XA60.8 would be even better -- maybe a tad excessive but you can never have enough power. Certainly the amp needs to be stable into low ohms. That's the key -- not necessarily the watts, but I certainly wouldn't dip below 30W.

The Burmester 956MK2 was doing a stellar job at controlling the MRT, but it just doesn't have the tone that Pass Labs has.

The effort and brave approach paid off completely. It's even heard over YT. The orchestra was comfortably seated in the room and for the most part outside it. It's perfect.
