Hi everyone,

I'm currently thinking about swapping my Quad ESL63s for a 20.7. The setup of my listening room is tailored for planar designs and a first test with an older 3.3 was very promising. I really liked the 20.7 at shows and at dealers, even though I always had to listen with solid state electronics. My basic question is whether my CAT JL5 with 100 watts in pure triode mode can drive and control the 20.7. Do you have any experience with tube amplifiers with comparable output performance?

Thank you!

This would be a great question for Wendell at Magnepan. I would be interested in what he says.

Great idea, here is the answer:

A full class A amp capable of producing 100 or more watts per channel RMS into 4 ohms should be plenty enough to power MG20.7's.
