Last Saturday, I was commissioned to make a recording of early period music. The works range from 9th to 15th century and include works by Abel, Binchois, Cima, Gibbons, Maurus, Schütz, Preaetorius and Rorem.

Since this is a live sounding space, I wanted to avoid the pitfalls of using omni and other arrays like PZM, and opted for a combination of O.R.T.F. and wide-spaced stereo, plus a dedicated pair for picking up hall ambiance, using cardioid large diaphragm condensers. This would then be mixed in post production.
