I heard the MSL Platinum recently. Out of the box, it sounded very smooth. Too smooth. I wonder if its smoothness reverses over time or if this is the long term signature of this cart. Any thoughts?

Interesting?! I never found the MSL Plat out of the box to be too smooth, in fact, it was a bit burnished to my experience.

I revisit the instruction menu, it said the loading would be ideal at 200 - 300 ohm. But of course, it is only a general guideline, different components could contribute a different result.

I'm going to try a cartridge that is much less expensive than any of the MSLs but has received good reviews.
It's the Hana ML.
Output voltage: 0.4 mV
Coil impedance: 8 ohms
Compliance: 10 x 10-6 cm/dyne
Weight: 9.5 g

It's made by the Excel Sound Corporation, makers of the Etsuro Urushi line of cartridges.

I'm running one, very pleased with it, just seems to do everything right

Be interested to hear how you get on and from anyone with experience how it compares to some of the big guns

I'll be sure to post my impressions. It will be a while before I get it as my system and home are currently undergoing some renovations.

To an extent it'll depend on the rest of your system.

The ML is lovely in my system, I don't have direct experience comparing it to the SL but those I know who do feel it's a significant step up.
