My wife was out with her book club and my daughter was visiting so we decided to go to our local artsy movie theater and saw "Neruda."

The movie was made in Chile, we saw it with English subtitles and it was a very unusual film. My daughter spent a semester in Chile when she was in college so that made it interesting for her.

I was not familiar with the Nobel prize winning Chilean poet. He was a communist (of sorts) and was forced to leave Chile in the late 1940's with support from Pablo Picasso but returned to Chile when the socialist Salvador Allende was elected president of Chile in the 70's. The USA was not a big fan of Allende to say the least.

The film was not quite a biography and had film noir overtones as a detective hunted him down at the behest of the government. It was a very different but interesting movie and was a well made period piece, too.

The movie was shown here as part of a film festival and will be released in more theaters around the USA next month.

It won't be everyone's cup of tea but we did enjoy it.

Thanks. I'll watch it, love his Canto General

Looks like an amazing movie...very well known actor list! Will definitely check this out; this movie will also have high WAF!
