Great review. Thanks for sharing. I was interested in the Thorens 1600's but ended up purchasing the Technics SL1200G which was a logical step up from the SL1210GR I once owned. This new tonearm sounds like a real improvement. I may have to reconsider in a few years.

I understand that Naim was the THORENS distributor in the US and they no longer carry THORENS. Is that a red flag? I am looking for a TD-1601 in walnut with a TP-160 tone arm. The two upscale retailers that I work with have dropped THORENS as well and are unable to get this TT. There seem to be very few dealers in the US that carry them. They have cited quality and maintenance issues. The reviews of the TD-1601 were generally good. What happened?
