Note: I have a lot of questions as i'm quite new to high-end audio.
I'm looking to possibly upgrade my stereo amplifier.
The current amplifier i have is Pioneer A-40AE,
which is a great low/mid tier integrated amplifier with ratings of
60 W + 60 W (20 Hz-20 kHz, THD 0.5 %, 4 ohms).
I recently got my hands on a great set of speakers which i got a great deal on.
They are the Audio Pro Bravo FX10.
The speakers have a built in amplifier for the bass only, running a 8" woofer.
And it has 2 x 5 1/4" midwoofers and a 1" tweeter.
The frequency range is 18 - 50.000 Hz, and an impedance of 4 ohm.
The speaker has a sensitivity of 91dB, and they are rated for 25-200W (I think).
I have had a hard time finding information about the RMS and peak wattages.
Maybe i can get some help here.
-----------------------
#1 My main question here is if i will see a significant increase in audio quality
by upgrading my amplifier? Or is my current amplifier good enough?
#2 And how much do i need to spend to get an increase?
--> A bit of background information:
Interests:
My main music tastes are New Rock / Punk / Scream / Metal and also EDM / Trance / Epic Hardstyle.
I use the setup to listen for myself with the music being digital.
(I have an external dac: Cambridge Audio DacMagic | also the amplifier i use has a built in dac)
Occasionally i use it to watch movies with friends or by myself,
but mainly i want to improve my music experience.
It might be worth mentioning that i have an active 12" bass that i occasionally connect via
line out, to get a boost in low bass frequencies.
But running 3 separate bass elements sometimes over/underpowers certain bass frequencies.
Room size:
I have a quite small room, with limited positioning capabilities.
But i want to be a bit future proof, to a larger room, because my current apartment is temporary.
The volume output goes quite high as of now,
so the wattage output from the amplifier is not a problem at the moment.
Budget:
My buget is around 1000$ at the moment, but i actively look at the used market to get a good deal.
So the budget is not a major problem.
I'm quite patient and given enough time i might find a very good deal on the used market,
but im not really sure what to look for.
-----------------------
Another question i have is related to output power of an amplifier.
As of now i think my speakers are rated for a continuous output of 25-200W.
#3 Should i therefore get an amplifier that can drive 4 ohm speakers with 200W or more per channel?
#4 Can my current amplifier deliver peak wattages of 200W or only 60W?
#5 Can my speakers handle peaks higher than 200W?
And are these peaks a major factor when it comes to audio quality/enjoyment when listening to music?
#6 What specifications should i look for when buying an amplifier?
#7 Which class of amplifier does suit my music taste best?
#8 How does the dynamics of the sound play togheter with the wattage?
If my amplifier is rated at a higher wattage, is the dynamics of the music better?
Thanks in advance!
I know i had a lot of questions. And there is no need to answer all questions.
But i hope to get a little more insight into high-end audio
