What Exactly is A One Step Record?
One-step records skip the usual father-mother-stamper process. Instead, the lacquer is used directly to create the stamper, reducing steps and preserving more sound detail. Fewer steps, better fidelity!
When Gary @ Genesis Advanced Technologies was asked to sponsor music at the inaugural Pacific AudioFest in Seattle WA, he asked Paul Sawtelle to bring his Big Band. The excitement and joy of the band getting back together after the enforced break of the pandemic was palpable in their performance and appreciative audience of audiophiles ate it up. Throwing that energy back at the band, encouraging the musicians to greater heights, and we captured it all direct-to-tape on a Nagra IV-S with a pair vintage Neumann TLM50 microphones on SM900 at 15ips - by Ki Choi and Dr. Phillip Chance.
The recording was so good, we decided it had to be shared, and when another Pacific AudioFest came around, we did it all over again. Then, we commissioned Bernie Grundman to master the recording, and cut lacquers direct from the 2track tape. Plated at Paramount Plating and pressed by Fidelity Record Pressing.
They will be available at Elusive Disc for pre-order. Only 3,000 copies will be made - no re-press / re-order possible.
