I have a Pioneer DV-79AVi. I am interested in using it as a CD transport but don't know how to do that. The manual has no info on doing it. Thanks

Hey dimposs,

Quite straightforward really. Your player has several digital outputs; AES-3 unbalanced on an RCA, plus HDMI and Pioneer’s proprietary 1394 spigot. Go with the player’s RCA digital output using an RCA cable designed for digital audio, not an analog RCA interconnect. That’s all there is to it! Plug your player into a DAC and off you go…

You may need to switch the signal on the digital output in the menu to PCM digital (just speculating here - haven't seen Pioneer's manual; many DVD/BR players require that setting to enable the digital out in PCM format).
