I've read a few posts at various places about using subwoofers - especially VSA Shockwaves - for room mode mitigation.
This sounds like something I'd like to understand more, including the process for determining placement and settings. Anyone?
Thanks.
In simple explanation, you can use subwoofers to address bass issues and standing waves.
by using several subwoofers you can average out room modes and provide more even bass across the listening area.
The best way to approach this is first to measure your room response, so you'll know which issues your about to handle.
Subwoofer placement can be done using measurement or SPL (move around the room and find those standing waves), the usual suspects are corners, and midpoints of walls.
regarding integration, to my opinion the easiest way is by using processor that have RC like Trinnov, or by using external cross over.
A swarm can mitigate room modes. Your placing the subs around the room. Some could be behind you, to the side. Anywhere. What your doing is trying to limit coupling and canceling waves by sitting the subs so that the waves work for you, not against you.
