Hey there,

Was curious if anyone has any experience using a Taiko with the Tidal DAC Camira?

Thanks!

Hello.

I see you have not had a response. I might chime in but don’t have experience with the specific pieces you ask while I think others on here will have. I have Tidal Piano speakers and the Impulse amps. I also had a Taiko Extreme that I used to feed a Tidal Preos (DAC / preamp). To do that I had to convert USB out into SPDIF as the Preos didn’t have a USB input and the Taiko is optimised for USB out (still sounded great). I would be asking advice on the compatibility of the Taiko USB out and Camira USB input. It may be fine but I think you could ask Taiko (they know what DACs are being used by customers) or your Tidal dealer to double check. I have since moved to a Tidal Contros and which is very very good. With the built in streaming capability I no longer needed the Taiko and moved it on.

Best,
RS

Hey RS,

Thanks for the reply. Tidal gear is awesome, isn't it?! What did you do with your Taiko? Were you able to sell it for a decent amount? I did reach out to Tidal, and Jorn assured me the Taiko would work excellently with the Camira.

Did you purchase the Contros new? This gear is so pricey, Ive been holding out to find used items.

Hi,

Tidal stuff is very good and (unfortunately) priced accordingly. I bought the Contros new and traded in the Taiko against it for what I deemed a fair price. I was also interested in the Taiko Olympus but various timing / system configuration issues meant the Contros was a more logical choice. Sounds fantastic and has clearly elevated the system a lot. Plan on it being the heart of my system for a long time (famous last words). I really like the fact you just stick network cable in the back and you are good to go but obviously optimising network etc will give benefits.

The Contros is “basically” the Arkas streamer, Camira DAC and Prisma pre amp in one box. On that basis I think the Camira DAC would be amazing with the Taiko. If Jorn says it will work then I am sure it will. If you have the updated USB card in the Extreme I think (from memory) Taiko have different USB driver profiles that work optimally for different DACs. You might want to check with them on which driver would be best. Taiko are very responsive and great customer service.

I am envious of your speakers. Contriva would be end of road for me but combination of room size, wallet size and my desire to stay married have kept me away!!!

I would also note that Tidal has a specific forum on WBF. It’s not particularly high volume (like the kit) but if you post there you may get more educated responses from folks with first hand experience.

Best,
RS

PS I have bought quite a few things 2nd hand but, with the Contros being quite new, not sure many will be available 2nd hand (but you never know and staying close to your dealer could be a good strategy).
