An audio club friend and I are preparing to modify a Music Hall USB-1 turntable I recently bought on eBay. I plan to chronicle the process on my Blog, for anyone else who wants to try it. I’d like to see if you all can add some worthwhile ideas about what we can do with it.

My friend bought a USB-1 several months ago and we were very surprised how good it sounded. Not to mention the fact that it includes an internal phono preamp. He’s already done several mods to his unit. In my system we both thought it sounded as good or better than a Rega P7 and Acoustech PH1 phono preamp we compared it to.

Here’s what we’ve considered so far. There may not be much left to do, but I’m interested in gathering some suggestions before we get started. Thanks for your help.

Dynamat in chassis
Dynamat under platter
Rewire tonearm
Replace phono jacks
Replace plug with IEC
Replace preamp diodes
Replace preamp caps
Replace preamp jack and power wiring
Upgrade cartridge
Upgrade footers
Upgrade the power transformer
