Tonearm Overhang

Is the tonearm overhang a parameter of the tonearm manufacturer or a calibration method like Lofgren and Stevenson.?

O?verhang is the distance past the spindle the stylus is when rotated over it. It can vary depending on the length of the tonearm you are using. Shorter arms will have more of an arc so the overhang will be larger than longer arms. Linear tracking arms will of course have no overhang.

It is the only type of tonearm that will give the user peace of mind - no overhang means no tracking error. Otherwise we will always be listening to the variation of the tracking error ...

Some funny pivot tonearms had a system of levers to position the cartridge for null tracking error during playback AFAIK were never a success.

Unfortunately micro linear trackers have their own issues, belt type has steps and air type's sound is variable with pressure, not to mention air coloration. Everything is a compromise!

Surely. Compromise and preference are the keywords in high-end. But blessed are the ignorant or those who think they know everything!
