I recently purchased a few of these tapes & scoured the internet for information on the series .Info from sources Billboard magazine suggest that Norman Granz set up the tape division. The year was 1957
with Ella Fitzgerald's "The Rodger's & Hart Songbook" being the 1st release.It included 4 stacked-inline
tape reels volumes 1-4.Billboard magazine reported that Robert Fine Studios on the east coast would be responsible for the recordings and duplicating would be done on the west coast.
Does anybody have any more info they could share.? These tapes are supposedly rare according to Steve Hoffman.

The Ella & Louis Again vol. 1 included "Autumn in New York" One of the most beautiful recordings ever.

Of Interest the musicians are:

Louis Armstrong (vc, tp), Ella Fitzgerald (vc), Oscar Peterson (p), Herb Ellis (g), Ray Brown (b), Louie Bellson (d)

Whatever deck played that tape back has some issues as the tape pack doesn't look very good.

Well that maybe true but considering there aren't too many 2 track tapes that are in pristine condition for 54 years old i'll live with it.
Like I said the playback on the vol 1 was fine and sounded very nice.

After all I am a lover of music 1st and a collector 2nd.

It's not a permanent condition. The next time those tapes are played back on a deck with good real alignment, the tapes should pack perfect as it plays.
