I recently purchased a few of these tapes & scoured the internet for information on the series .Info from sources Billboard magazine suggest that Norman Granz set up the tape division. The year was 1957
with Ella Fitzgerald's "The Rodger's & Hart Songbook" being the 1st release.It included 4 stacked-inline
tape reels volumes 1-4.Billboard magazine reported that Robert Fine Studios on the east coast would be responsible for the recordings and duplicating would be done on the west coast.
Does anybody have any more info they could share.? These tapes are supposedly rare according to Steve Hoffman.
The Ella & Louis Again vol. 1 included "Autumn in New York" One of the most beautiful recordings ever.
Of Interest the musicians are:
Louis Armstrong (vc, tp), Ella Fitzgerald (vc), Oscar Peterson (p), Herb Ellis (g), Ray Brown (b), Louie Bellson (d)
