Now that virtually anyone can become an instant expert on virtually any topic and can quickly respond to any and all thread postings, will the character of the forum be forever changed?

I would suggest that AI will impact the forum, to what extent remains to be seen. Yesterday I was chatting with ChatGPT and it believes that there's more than 2 human genders, so...

In matters of expertise, the available AI platforms operate as sophisticated and fast search engines, with advanced language capability.
Most of the discussions here require varying doses of experiential and subjective, personal, commentary -- i.e. info not accessible to the AI platform.
So, we will still have to provide subjective opinion and personal experience, regardless of the expertise inspired via AI.
For now.

AI, at least chatGPT, is designed to mimic human like responses based upon inputs from interactions with the populus. Also it also seeks out new information, information that it believes comes from reliable sources.

Perhaps chatGPT is useful for a few things, medical science however is not one of them.

We had a long thread debating it five months ago, that restricted the use of AI in WBF posts. Unfortunately it looks that an AI bot was intelligent enough to bypass the forum administrators and managed to delete the whole thread with its conclusions and rules:

Scanning the TOS it appears the rule forbidding AI content never got added.

Maybe it’s still being researched……
