Florida's taxation system is certainly very attractive to the players. It's definitely an advantage for their hockey organization as far as attracting and retaining talented hockey players from all over the world!

Same for Dallas and Nashville. That said, the GMs of the Panthers and Lightning know how to build rosters , and Maurice and Cooper are top notch coaches

McDavid was nullified by the Panther's superior team defence on both sides of the puck. At the end of the day hockey is a team game, even one of the best players in the league can't do it by himself.
Edmonton was a good team, good enough to reach the finals but they did not have the depth of talent to win. Draisaitl and McDavid are both excellent players but the supporting cast was lacking, similar to the reason Toronto lost in many ways. Florida has great goaltending and a very balanced 3/4 line roster. The players both on offence and defence bought into their roles and exceptional play by Bennett, Barkov and Marchand sealed the deal.
Florida is simply the better team, they have three good lines, good defense, good coach and solid goaltending. Oilers have McDavid, Driesitl and not much more in terms of offense.. Perry played well as well , but that’s about it. they need better goaltending as Skinner and Pickard are both inconsistent.
It is absolutely more than just a tax thing. Florida also has great management and coaching.
Most teams in the league are built around entertaining during the regular season. Only a handful of teams are built to endure the Stanley Cup grind. The management in Florida has done an excellent job through drafting and free agent signing to get the right kind of players. Their coaching staff has done an equally good job in developing players and a well structured team concept.
Teams that use up all of their salary cap by signing a few superstar players but not being able to afford enough talent for their third and fourth lines rarely win it all. It still is a team game.
All I was saying is Florida, Vegas and Dallas have an advantage when signing players because of their tax situation. They can pay a player less than a location that has higher taxes because his take home pay could actually be higher than his buddy that has a larger contract on paper in a state/ province with higher taxes.

Look at his stats. It’s not about this one series. He can’t play when it matters most. Same thing with Marner and Matthews. They are regular season point getters who can’t play under pressure. The greatest players can find a way to deliver when the pressure is on.

For the first 15-20 years of the Florida's team's existence in the NHL, nobody said boo about the tax situation in Florida, now that they have created success from the elements you mention, we begin to hear it is the tax situation that is providing them a competitive advantage. In the building blocks of success of these teams it may be #49 in the top 50 reasons for their success. If it was such a advantage for Florida teams the Jax Jaguars, Tampa Bay Bucs, Miami Dolphins, Tampa Rays, Orlando Magic and all the other Florida pro teams should be equally successful...they are not. Just listen to their fans!

When the opposition can focus solely on him and Leon because the rest of forward group is largely lacking there's a better than good chance of stopping them and the Oilers 5 on 5 which is what happened. As others have noted, the Panthers got scoring up and down their lineup including from their dmen, the Oilers didn't. Also, guess you maybe forgot that Barkov and Reinhardt are Selke level defensive forwards which factors largely into the match-up

When the Cats traded Huberdeau and Weigar for Chucky my son was upset as he thought the Panthers gave up too much. Hubie was one of his favorite players. What I told him is the Panthers got the best player and therefore they will win the trade. Since that time 3 straight cup finals and two cups. Both the Lightning and Panthers have great organizations, are excellent judges of talent and basically win every trade they make. As an old school Ranger fan before coming to Florida the Bolts have fleeced the Rangers so much they should get arrested for it.
The teams with the most money like Toronto and New York can't buy a cup and its certainly not a tax thing.
Florida the hockey capital of the world, deal with it! LOL
97 and 29 have to play heavy minutes for the entire playoff for the Oilers to survive because of their weak bench, they’re both worn out by the time they reach the finals.. and Marchand played like 18 minutes for the Panthers because of their deep bench.. and as previously mentioned here, opposing teams can focus on them without worrying much on the others. hockey is more of a team game compared to basketball

you are totally right Marchie played 3rd line minutes against 3rd line players and his line was great during the playoffs. Bennet won the Conn Smyth and he is a 2nd line player. 97 ans 29 are great players for sure and you are correct again the hockey is a team game so if you contain them you have a great shot at beating their team. Cats also had the best goaltending in the finals and that always plays a huge factor. IMO Bob was great and he played an integral part in the two cups.

LOL, what? McDavid and Leon are on the same line. “Rest of the forward group” is one other player. We heard consistently, approx every 30 seconds, that they are the two best players in the world. So I guess you’re saying they’re not good when playing against other good players. Got it.
I don’t remember hearing all these excuses for Gretzky, Mario, Sakic, Yzerman, Crosby, etc, etc. The truly great players can deliver when it matters.

Comical thinking that top offensive players can't be shutdown at times by top defensive players; and that the entire roster compliment doesn't factor in.
As far as their performance goes the both of them scored 1.5 pts/game in these playoffs, and career wise Leon is 1.47/game and Connor is 1.56/game. Gretsky was 1.83/game, Lemeiux 1.60/game, Yzerman .94/game, Crosby 1.12/game so stop acting like they are 2 chumps.

Leon 1.33 Connor 1.16. And , ignoring that Barkov won the Selke again , now 3 times, and Reinhardt was a finalist this year guess they were just going to rollover and let them do whatever they wanted. Couple that with overall team defense, balanced offense and a goalie who will enter the HOF and you have a winning combination that the Oilers couldn't match. Have a good day
